Bill Gierke, 300 win club.

Bill Gierke is one of a only a few FL hs coaches with 300 wins.  Below is his coaching history.`

Orangewood Christian 2011-present

Edgewater 2000-10; 2002, 2003, 2004 6A state runner-up

Dr. Phillips 1998-99

Evans 1982-96; 1991 5A state co-champion

Badbird, I don't know you well enough to ask, but I am wondering which coaching club is more exclusive.   :D

I will give an unauthorized answer for Badbird. The 300 club is better.

With that said, Badbird was an excellent coach and I understand why he feels the way he does. One stinging loss was in the third round of the 2003 (or was it 2004, I could be off a year) playoffs against Edgewater. Apopka was coming off a big win over Sandalwood and the fans were feeling we had a chance. Unfortunately, Apopka was plagued with unforced errors in the game and dropped a reasonably close one at College Park. Bobby Raugh put the nail in the coffin with a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. Edgewater went on to lose the title game against a Miami team.

I think there are 5 coaches with 300 wins.  Only one coach beat me 4 times (probably because I didn't coach enough games).  :D

My brief coaching career here is how I faired vs those 5

Corky Rogers never played but it wouldn't have been good

Bill Castle 5-2 not many can say they have 5 wins vs probably the best coach in Florida history

George Smith 0-1 what coulda shoulda been

Gene Cox before my time

Bill Gierke 2-7 and now you know why I'm not a fan of his.  He owned me.  Great coach.

Hey everybody, I am from Full Sail's Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting. I will be calling one or two of Orangewood Christian's home games. They have one this Friday and I might call it or I might not but I want to be prepared if I do to offer any fans that watch the livestream a good experience. I just moved here last year from California so I do not know much information about Florida High school sports. Can anyone send me the best sites to find coach Gierke's career information? I am struggling to find up to date sources. I found a good article from 2013 in the Orlando Sentinel but obviously that was only 2 years into his tenure at Orangewood. Anyone willing to help can email me info straight to my email or I will be checking this thread hourly. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I attached the conformation email that I was sent just so you guys know this is legit.

As a head coach Bill Gierke was 4-0 vs badbird.  Pisses me off every time I think about it.   That's all you need to know.  Google search orangewood maxpreps and you can find how they did each year after that.  Maxpreps can have errors and often times does so be careful

2019 They went 7-5 lost in the second round of their playoffs

2018 They went 6-3 lost in the first round

    • Here’s a scenario that will cook your noodle. There’s an 11th grader at a D rated public school. Lives in a bad neighborhood with a single mom and a bunch of siblings. Dirt poor, and struggle just to eat and keep the lights on. He can’t get a part time job to help out because he has to watch his little siblings while his mom works.    The school he plays for has poor attendance at the football games, and is always bad. He is a super star for them and tons of new bandwagon fans start to attend the games because they are good and he is the reason. School is making tons of new money.    Season is over. Back to reality for him. School year is over. Summer hits. Some “runner” on behalf of the rich local private school “offers” his mom, him, and all his siblings a way out of poverty. New place to live, food on the table, and an opportunity to get a quality education and maximize exposure for all the top colleges to see. A once in a lifetime opportunity to get his family out of poverty. What say you? Does he say no and continue to barely survive, or does he take the deal?
    • To make it short and sweet. I am against breaking the rules. If there is a rule that seems outdated or unfair then it should be amended/changed/repealed with majority rule
    • I am a huge proponent of innocent until proven guilty, and due process with credible evidence. I support a credible investigation, and not some witch hunt by disgruntled folks both near and far from the program. Let’s hope they can get to the bottom of this quickly
    • Thanks for admitting that you do not know why they transferred or the several others that mysteriously transferred to that school (not a known powerhouse).  Thanks for also agreeing you specifically have to ask all the kids that left for seemingly inexplicable reasons why.  That happened as a matter of fact which raises suspicion thus the launch of an investigation by the FHSAA who hopefully will ask YOUR question as well as many more to get to the bottom of it.  Any fair-minded person should readily support this investigation.  If you don't support and admitted you don't know the facts, you are basically guilty of what some are accusing you of.  I would hope you would like to know the TRUTH as opposed to simply attacking the messengers.
    • Nolebull, so here's the scenario:   A coach or a booster from a high school in Florida approaches a kid who plays football at a different school and offers that kid and/or that kid's parents a boatload of benefits (money, an apartment, or anything else that would, under existing rules, qualify as an "impermissible benefit").  Let's break this down:  it's OK for the kid and his family to accept the impermissible benefits as long as they believe that they're making the 'best decision' for their family.  And it's OK for the coach or booster to provide such impermissible benefits because that somehow improves the kid's chances of succeeding as an athlete and/or student.  Wait, it's not just "OK" for the coach or booster to do that, they should be encouraged to do that because that's the only way they'll be able to keep up with all the other coaches and boosters that are breaking the rules by providing impermissible benefits to other kids.  Have I got that right?  Do you want to do away with all the rules involving recruiting, benefits, transferring, etc. or just keep the rules in place, but not enforce them?   #Lordoftheflies
