Who Is This Famous Coach? Craig Howard/Nease & Columbia

Who is he?

At what school did he have his greatest success?

What well-known player did he coach?

In his last stint as a FL hs head coach, he spent 3 years at a school and only managed to make the playoffs once with that team.  Who was that team?

Best success was at Nease and he coached Tebow then he came to Columbia and flopped out 

 

Columbia has made playoffs every year since he was replaced by Brian Allen

Honestly I would have figured it out without the picture just because of the last clue about spending 3 years and making the postseason once

Craig Howard was hc at Nease from 2003-2007 and coached famous qb Tim Tebow.  In 2004, he took a team that had only won one playoff game in its history to the regional finals.  In 2005 and 2006, Nease won back-to-back state titles, and they were runner-up in 2007. 

Howard coached at Columbia from 2008-2010 and made the playoffs once.  After leaving Columbia, he went on to college coaching and took a struggling Southern Oregon team and led them to a NAIA title in 2014 and fell just short of repeating in 2015.  He passed away at the age of 64 in 2017.

Concerning his stint at Columbia, was it the coach who flopped out or the team?  He did pretty well for himself at Nease and Southern Oregon.

A team who had only missed the playoffs once since 1993 and had future NFL starters Timmy Jernigan and Laremy Tunsil on the roster during his stint only had one postseason appearance

 

And the coach who replaced him made the postseason every year since taking over and the preceding coach made the playoffs 11 out of 12 seasons he coached there

I don't think it's entirely his fault he failed at Columbia

 

The problem is Columbia isn't Nease

 

There isn't 4-5 other schools in the county that you can pull players from or even from some of the southern teams in Duval County, Nease is a much different culture than Lake City is 

 

It was a bad fit, the alumni base and the players don't respond well with outsiders especially ones who were determined to run things their way and many of the alumni base and even the coaches who had been there for years didn't mesh well with him and it caused a falling out with a lot of the alumni
