The 5 Worst Teams in the State

I am not doing this to embarrass these teams.  Rather, I want to demonstrate that we have some programs that are really struggling.  Am sorry for the title, but could not think of anything that would make anyone feel any better about this.

In some cases, these programs have been struggling for many years and for a new coach to turn them into a winning program, or even an average one, will be quite the task.  Interestingly, 2 are from Hillsborough County and 2 are from Miami-Dade County.  These are two counties where newer schools seem to have have a hard time getting their programs off the ground.

These same 5 teams were on this list two years ago, but Dunedin was at #3 and Strawberry Crest and Northeast were each tied at #5.  Fortunately for Dunedin, they have turned things around and dropped off the list.  

1. Tampa Leto is 2-65 over the past 7 seasons and had lost 48 straight regular season games played on the field before breaking the streak against Robinson earlier this month.  In those 67 games, Leto was outscored by its opponents by an average of 42-5.

2. Hialeah Westland is 2-61 over the past 7 seasons.  In those 63 games, they scored a total of 150 points and gave up an average of 39 points per game.

3. Miami Mourning is 4-52 over the past 7 seasons.  2 of those wins came against Hialeah Westland.  In those 56 games, Mourning was outscored by its opponents by an average of 38-5. 

4. Strawberry Crest is 7-62 over the past 7 seasons.  In those 69 games, Strawberry Crest was outscored by its opponents by an average of 34-7.

5. Oakland Park Northeast is 8-53 over the past 7 seasons   In those 48 games, Northeast was outscored by its opponents by an average of 33-10.

And, in case you are interested, #6 on the list is...

6. Pine Ridge 10-55

...and here are some teams that were in the running, but failed to make the cut.  They were too good.

The unfortunate reality is no matter how hard some teams try and what system is used to try and balance the classifications there will always be teams on this list that can seemingly never turn the programs around for one reason or another

 

Though I recognize a few teams on the list that actually used to be decent programs though so who knows what decent programs now might be at the bottom 10-20 years from now

You are right.  Dunedin used to be a contender, and look now.  Imagine one of the teams playing for a state title today being a doormat 20 years from now.

Wolfson used to be pretty good too

 

Also Andrew Jackson over in Jacksonville was one of the best publics in Duval back in early 00s and have fell to the bottom

 

Lee is good now but 10 years ago they were lucky to get 2 wins a season

Leto should be playing teams around Tampa Bay like Gulf, Hudson, Fivay, Anclote, Bishop McLaughlin, CDS, Freedom, Strawberry Crest, Cypress Creek, Dixie Hollins, Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Gibbs and Seminole.

There are plenty of terrible teams to all play each other so someone gets some wins. Lol

They made it to the 3rd round once in their history and lost that game 48-6. Which means they NEVER been good in the playoff era.

Jackson had a couple of good years when Kevin Sullivan, hardest part is keeping the kids eligible. 

From 2004-2009, they went 54-17.

As for schools like Strawberry Crest, the FHSAA should put these schools at 3A until they get a foundation. Again, a promotion and relegation system would be in schools like this interest.

Probably would have made it in 2001 If they didn't run into a dominant columbia team that could have won state if they didn't have to share a region with a loaded Lincoln team

Yes they should have a rule the you move down with a .200 winning percentage, and move up with a .800 one.

Columbia played lincoln closer during the season than STA did at states and If you look back at that time STA wasn't the team they are now and Columbia in those late 90s and early 00s were loaded teams 

 

Nobody in 6a north now could beat those columbia teams

Wolfson's biggest problem over the past 4 years is that they have become an IB only school (it is why their population dropped so much). Basically, Stanton, Paxon, and Wolfson are the same type of schools (same as Suncoast Riviera Beach).

Are you saying the very foundation of the Rhodes Scholarship is a non-starter? That outstanding academics and athletics just don't mix? Who would have thought?

Gulf High is 11-57 the past seven seasons thanks to an eight win season in 2014.

Other than that, they are 3-54 the past six seasons.

 None of these teams should be allowed to play in districts.  They are inflating the numbers causing us to have way more classes than we need. 

 We need to cut it down to about five classes total and trim the fat.  You have all these teams that have a less than 0% chance of winning anything jacking the numbers up justifying the FHSAA  having way too many classes and watering down our playoffs

 Hell if you have less than a .250 winning percentage   maybe they should kick you out of districts for not being competitive enough and force you to go independent.  It would force teams to get better if they wanted to compete for the playoffs and titles.

I Agree. The Classes are too watered down, and they don't mix it up every once in a while.

Here are the worst programs of the 21st century. All of these schools have participated each year (2000 - present) and have less than a .250 winning pct.. They are consistently sub-bar. To Nolebull's point, notice how many of these teams are on OldSchoolLions' seven year list.

Surprised that Forest Hill is still on the list, but I guess a 43 and 37 game losing streak will do that to your overall record.
