Playoff Firsts

8A Newsome will be hosting its first region title game ever when Osceola comes to town next week.  Newsome played in one other region final in its history, back in 2012.  And who was the opponent?  Osceola!

8A Bartram Trail has never won a region title on the road.  The two times they tried, they lost.  They will try to change that trend when they travel to Seminole.

8A Vero Beach will attempt to win its first region title of the 2000's when it host Miami Palmetto next week.  Palmetto will be playing for the first time ever in a region final.  This is the first time in the past 25 years that Vero Beach will be playing a Miami-Dade team in the playoffs.  The last time was 1994, when Vero beat Northwestern at home.

4A Gadsden County has made the state semis and will travel to Bolles.  Remember, this is the winless team that made the playoffs a couple of years ago via a coin flip.  Does not say much for the depth of 4A.

It's not a "first," but thought it worth mentioning.  4A Cardinal Gibbons has only won two region titles in its long school history, and only one of those titles took place in the past 30 years.  So, winning a region title when they travel to Cocoa would be huge for CG.

This is not a "first," but it's worthy of note...7A TB Tech hanging 55 on Lakeland last night.  Only Riverview and STA have ever done that.  This was only the third time in playoff history that any team hung 42+ points on Lakeland.

7A Fleming Island is 0-4 in region finals, so will be looking for its first region title ever when it hosts Niceville next week.  These two teams met in the playoffs last year, with Niceville winning at home.

7A Mitchell will be playing in its first region title game ever when it travels to Edgewater next week.

7A Venice has visited STA 3 times in the playoffs 3 of the past 4 years and lost by 20 or more points each time.  They will try to break the streak when they visit Brain Piccolo Stadium next week.

7A Tampa Bay Tech will be hosting its first region title game ever and will be attempting to win its first region title ever.  Bloomingdale will also be attempting to win its first region title ever, in only its second region title game appearance ever.  So, someone is going to win a region title for the first time!

6A Lake Minneola will host its first region title game ever and attempt to win its first such title ever when they host Gaither next week.  This is a rematch of last year's region final, which Gaither won 41-7.

6A Dunbar hosts its first region final ever and seeks its first region title ever.  That's not likely to happen, though, because they host Miami Central, a team that has already ended the playoff dreams of 2 SW FL teams.

Lake Mary travels to Apopka in an attempt to avenge its loss. It is also the first time they have ever made a regional final.

5A Rickards attempts to win its first region title ever when it travels to Baker County.\

5A Eau Gallie has never hosted a playoff game in its history.  That will change when it hosts American Heritage next week.  EG has only won one playoff game ever, back in 1995.  Will they win their second next week?  Uh, don't count it.

5A Jones has never played a Tampa team in the playoffs.  That will change next week when they travel to play Jesuit.  Jones is 2-8 in playoff games on the road.  Jesuit has played in 6 region finals this past decade, and won the last 4.  3 of those 6 were at home, and they won all 3.

5A Dunnellon meets Vanguard next week for the third time ever in the playoffs, looking for its first win against them.  Both of the prior two games were played at Vanguard, and Dunnellon will be visiting this time as well.

3A Berkeley Prep will attempt to win its first state semifinal ever when Chaminade-Madonna comes to town.  1985 was the last time BP hosted a state semifinal.  Chaminade-Madonna is on a mission to become the first south FL HS to ever 4-peat.

I thought Booker T Washington 4-peat first.

Lake Mary has a QB who can move the ball through the air; I'm sure that the Apopka coaches are looking at that because it could bite Apopka in this next game. In the 1st half of the WP game, WP had WR's wide open down field on 5 occasions and our QB overthrew them each time by 15-20 yards. The LM QB is a much better passer than the WP QB. If Apopka can control the LM QB, this should be a 2 or 3 TD win for Apopka.

Nawww really they won by forfeit. Correction MC would of 6 peat MC won in 2010

Well how would that have worked if Armwood also forfeited all their wins for the same reason

Also there is the fact that the forfeits happened after the season and the Miami herald already wrote this article about the game when Armwood won on the field

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
