Playoff Firsts

8A Palmetto won its first region title ever.  Interestingly, this is the first year Palmetto has ever played in the playoffs outside Miami-Dade county.  Despite playing their first game on 10/30 and losing their starting qb against Dr Phillips in a first round playoff game, Palmetto's D has enabled them to advance.  They have allowed only only 27 points in regulation in their 4 playoff games.

8A Osceola has never traveled south to play a playoff game, so it will be a first when the Kowboys travel to Miami to play Palmetto in a state semifinal.

Didn’t Palmetto play at Lake Nona two weeks ago and at Treasure Coast last week?

7A Bloomingdale won its first region title ever, in only its second region title game appearance ever.

7A St Thomas will be playing a playoff game in Hillsborough County for the first time since 2001 when they come to Bloomingdale next week.  STA beat Jefferson in 2001 and 1996.

7A Edgewater has never traveled west of Tallahassee for a playoff game, so its trip to Niceville next week for a state semifinal will be a first for them.

Edgewater’s first trip to the central time zone and it's to Niceville....yikes...not many places in the state are as hard to play at for opponents than Eagle Stadium. Looking forward to a classic next Friday! The Eagles, the ones from Niceville, would love to return the favor from last year....

5A Rickards won its first region title ever against Baker County.\

5A Dunnellon will attempt to win its first state semi since 1979 when it travels to play Rickards next week.

5A Gadsden County did something for the first time in 20 years...hold Bolles to 7 points or less in regulation at Bolles' home field.  Only Marianna(2000) and Taylor County (1978) have ever done that.

6A Lake Minneola won its first region title game ever in a rematch of last year's region final, which Gaither won 41-7.

The way they are playing, I think Lake Minneola takes down St. Auggie and makes it to Doak and a date with Miami Central in the finals. The fairy tale probably ends there, but it would be a great accomplishment regardless. On the other side of the bracket, Palmetto gets a rematch against Central. It likely won't be as close as last year, but you never know.

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
