Pre-Season Possibilities in April

Maybe a little early for this prognosis. However, many people are more in the know than I am. So, any indications from the grapevine if the 2021 season is going to a regular season to include the Spring games? I'm not much for Spring games per se as I don't think they have a lot of value so early in the season and are open to possible injuries with players who have not fully acclimated to the full contact schedule. That being said I'm still interested to know if they will be played.

Spring games may not be a big deal to fans, but to players, it's their first chance since the Fall 2019 season to impress college scouts and possibly earn a scholarship. The class of 2021 lost last Spring (2020) to Covid. College programs closed down football camps during the Summer of 2020 and visits to colleges were eliminated. Attendance at HS games this past Fall were severely restricted and college scouts were staying back at home. To totally kill recruiting for the class of 2021, the NCAA granted another year of eligibility to all current college players without increasing scholarship levels. So, Spring 2021 is big for kids in the classes of 2022 and 2023. Kids will always be exposed to injuries playing football; my oldest grandson broke his forearm in Winter Park's 1st playoff game playing defensive end. His reaction; it's football, injuries happen, He was thankful he got to play his senior season.

You're right they should make it week 1 of the regular season.

Personally, I'd rather see both teams have a few games under their belts before they square off.  Apopka has a tendency to start a little slow, but finish strong -- in large part because of it takes a little time to get their sophisticated offensive in synch (even though many the kids have been running it since their youth football days).

Thats cool I wouldn't mind them getting of few games played before they face off as long as they get this game played.

I remember going to a spring game in Orlando. and Cocoa was playing at Dr Phillips and they pounded Dr Pepper like 35-7 at half. The game was suspended due to weather but Cocos was rocking and rolling. Spring games feel like real games as long as the starter play significantly in the first half.

Also I went to a spring game at Cocoa when they played Miami Northwestern. A rocket/spaceship went off and the whole stadium just stopped everything to watch. It was so cool.

Nolebull813, what year were those spring games? The reason why I ask is because Coach Wilkinson is known for not caring about spring games at all. In fact, since Coach Wilkinson has been the Head Coach at New Smyrna Beach, the team has not played a spring game at all to my knowledge. Did the Tigers play spring games when he was the Head Coach at Cocoa?

Those spring games happened while Coach Wilks was coaching Cocoa, they played Dr.P 2 springs in a row and played Northwestern the spring after they played Central in the regular season if I remember correctly. To me it seemed like they only played spring games when it was against high competition. They also played oxbridge when they bad travis homer.

I believe vs Dr Phillips was in 2011 and Cocoa vs MNW was in 2013.

They played Dr Phillips in 2012 but I didn’t go to that one so I’m assuming the one I went to at Dr P was in 2011

Cocoa won both games against Dr.P. they were coming back when they put in the backups and JV

    • I was actually itching to treat some wager some money on some sports matches that are happening above-board now. I wanted to let you guys identify that I did spot what I ruminate on to be the kindest site in the USA. If you fall short of to get in on the spirit, check it out-moded: https://pokeronline.guru/online-gambling/
    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
