Flanagan ranked #9 by Max Preps

Flanagan checks in at #9 in the country and #3 in the state behind IMG Academy(#7) and Miami Central(#2). My question is can they live up to this ranking?

8A in the south seems to be a toss up. In 2012, we had Cypress Bay come out of the South and damn near win it losing 50-48 to Apopka in one of the most exciting games I have ever seen.

In 2013 we had South Dade shock a lot of people, go 14-1 and win it all in 8A.

Then in 2014, we had Columbus come out of the south only to lose to Apopka in Orlando.

Can Flanagan bring the 8A title back to South Florida?

I believe Apopka will be at least as good as last year in which they peaked late in the season and never looked back.

Defensively speaking Flanagan should be among the best in the country.

Flanagan had a huge injury in the post-season last year to the top player and still almost made it to the 8A Championship game vs. Apopka.  They will likely have their hands full again this year vs a very good Columbus team who will be hungry for another shot at a title.

As far as living up to a #9 ranking.....

IF the Falcons were to go undefeated through a decent schedule, topped off the regular season with a  W @ St. Thomas Aquinas, and landed a 8A State Title, then it would be hard not to say they are worthy of a top National Ranking.  That would be a very hard road though!

I am curious on Apopka as well.  I am not as familiar with that region to give a fair opinion.  From what I have heard they are expected to contend for a 8A Title again this year.  Last year, Apopka started kind of slow and seemed to peak late.  I also know Columbia is a very established program and will be looking for a big win in this one.  Both teams apparently are very will coached and this should make for a nice early season matchup.

well we managed to snag a comeback victory against west orange in last years kickoff who eventually won the district on Apopka so anything can happen, then again I don't think giving up a 27 point lead will work this time around, we need to start quick and keep the pressure on all game to have a chance of beating Apopka

@09mrslick    Does Miramar have a QB this year? I believe the QB from last year transferred to Hallandale to play his natural position - WR. Surprised he did not stay at Miramar.... You could always see he was athletic but QB may not have been his natural position.  Miramar's Defense will likely be good enough to contend for 8A but the offense is up in the air at this point...I got them @ Deerfield Beach for the first playoff game though!

Miramar went to states in 2011, 1st year they're in 8A and lost to Plant ending the season 13-1. Just thought I'd share that. Anyways I think Miramar has a strong bid for 8A title this year, although there breaking in a new but one thing is for sure they've always had a stellar defense.

I think Miramar has a strong bid in 8A as well. The 8A South will definitely be interesting to watch that is for sire

Larry Blustein had a great read today on his South Florida Sports Website that answered a lot of questions about Miramar. Yes, they have indeed brought in a very experienced QB and they still have a lot of Seniors on their roster.  That said, the Patriots should have a lot of things ironed out by September.  Looking forward to seeing Miramar rebound and should be a great game vs. Flanagan!

Let me say this. I attended all 3 games St. Thomas, American Heritage and Flanagan and I gotta say Miramar had those 3 in all phases of the ball. The reason why Miramar lost was due to lack of discipline and coaching. I can tell anybody and bet money on it that if coach Cogdell was still running things we would have went 10-0. When these boys start transferring from one school to another I completely get it because of coaching. I can't remember which opponent it was St. Thomas or American Heritage, but I just know it was a home game and you could literally see one of Miramar players acting out of control and wasn't listening to any of the coaches. As a spectator like everyone else sitting in the stands we're all in shock for the fact that we never witnessed something like this before or at least I haven't.

I can't argue against that 09mrslick.   I saw 2 of the games in person and saw box scores of all games.  They could indeed could have been 10-0 and coaching , discipline and I still feel they needed a stronger QB for them to have taken states.  Anyway, new Coach, new QB and you can bet they will be back in business for the District.

Miramar with coaching and discipline would've beaten STA last year and that is a FACT. I am not afraid to admit that. I too hope Miramar does well this year I feel like SFLA football is better with Miramar playing well.
