So, now there's a kid at Bolles who plays OL, another who plays DL, another who plays LB and one who plays TE that all finished up their season this past year and all four of them thought they'd be starting (again?) for the Bulldogs this fall.  And now they probably won't be.  Or they'll be starting at another position but the kids who would have been starting at those positions now won't be.    So, conceivably, there are four families shelling out $30K a year in tuition who thought they would be watching their sons playing for Bolles this coming season who, instead, likely will be waving down to their boys during the game, after having told them before the game to "stay ready in case someone gets hurt."  B)

Yeah, I understand the reality.  I know good schools, good coaches and good kids will always attract kids who want to be a part of a successful program.  But, when one school picks up 4 or 5 quality transfers in one off-season, it certainly makes me wonder what's going on just a little.

As it's already been stated that would be on par with what Lee got, in fact Lee got more than that and as I stated before schools like Raines, sandalwood, Ed White, First Coast, Mandarin, etc all get similar or higher transfer numbers in some years

Now is Lee gonna get heat for recruiting like I hear people say about Bolles or TCA or do they need to cheat for a state title before people will care?

And no the reason I bring up Lee specifically is because we already shown in this thread back on page 1 that they have loaded up on transfers

I didn't bring up Lee in my post for two reasons:

First, I knew you would.

Second, it doesn't cost $30K a year to go to Lee.

;)

Regardless of the charge Bolles has it is still a situation where a kid who may have been there several years will now sit the bench because of a transfer which was one of the key complaints mentioned in this thread correct?

Why can't we all just agree that a transfer in will probably replace a local although in theory I would imagine that  every player has to tryout for the team before the season including the transfers. I don't think it matters to the kid sitting on the bench whether his parents are paying for the school out of their own pocket or the school is taxpayer funded. All he knows is that he gave his all for the team and some guy who comes in off the street and is somewhat more talented is a starter and is replacing him. High school is supposed to be a place where young people are being molded into adults academically, physically, and psychologically. How does this behavior advance that goal? All it seems to show is that a person with specific talent for a game overcomes hard work and dedication. I do realize that out in the real world much of the time fairness is not in play. But, when you are 14 through 17 being a part of unfairness on purpose can be devastating.

Though it only happens on rare occasions, that is why it is so satisfying when the kid who transfers in is beaten out by the kid who is actually zoned for the school.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned Sebring got 6 transfers from Hardee. I also heard Fort Meade got 3 transfers from Hardee.  I suppose if either Sebring or Fort Meade exceed expectations this year the credit will be given to fact they got transfers in. Likewise if Hardee has a really bad year the excuse will be because we lost 9 players which is a comp-out because we still have some good players left.

If Brian Allen had access to the talent In Lake City that SFL schools or that those California powerhouses have I guarantee you they would annually be top 5 in the country

Columbia's best players are as good as the best anywhere else. The problem is: in a typical year, you don't have enough of them at all the positions on the field to go the distance. And, given geographical considerations, it is unlikely you will under the current rules of the game.

Back in the day, before recruiting became widespread, and before transferring was aided and abetted by State government, every five or ten years, despite being a small city, Columbia could put together a team that could compete at the state level, despite having holes in some areas. Today, with transferring made easy, it is a very daunting task for Columbia to win a state title even if it gets to the title game. When you have the entire starting secondary leaving one school to join another 10 or so miles away, in a sense it makes a mockery of what high school football should be.

Yes, on some level, you get a few super teams that could compete with some small colleges, or with the national powerhouses (mostly private schools) but at what cost? Beating the hell out of their peers who lost out in the recruiting wars and have been depleted as a consequence?

The only way to make any sense of this is with some sort of master list or spreadsheet by school. Which schools have gained and lost which players? Then, we could try to get a feel for how good (or not) the transferred players are. Just seeing a bunch of twitter posts doesn't help much.

That would be pointless as most areas don't even report on transfers nor do I have time to put something like that together

At least I'm making an effort to put something together when it's been ignored ever since Broward stopped posting here

What happened at Hardee that would cause 9 players to transfer out of their school? That's a significant number, especially if they're productive players.

They have been a consistently good football team over the past few years; something major had to have happened to lose that many kids.

    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
