Seems like a tough schedule to me...

KOC- @ Miami Northwestern

Week 1- Cardinals Gibbons

Week 2- Edgewater

Week 3- Cocoa

Week 4- @ Sarasota

Week 5- Palmetto

Week 6- Bye

Week 7- @ Lakewood Ranch

Week 8- Manatee

Week 9- Gulf Coast

Week 10- Riverview

Week 11- North Fort Myers

Thoughts? I think Venice can go undefeated, but Edgewater isn’t going to be easy and Gibbons beat STA last year.

Front end of the schedule is loaded for sure. They are definitely more than capable of running the table and going undefeated. But I'm not gonna lie I can see them stumbling in the first 5 weeks of the schedule.

Toss ups are the KOC against Northwestern and home against Gibbons. I honestly believe they will edge out Edgewater in a close one but that can go either way depending on who forces the late turnover in that game.

Trap games are Cocoa and Palmetto. Well only if that's Miami Palmetto lmao. But I do believe the Cocoa one is definitely the tricky one. They could come into that game hot on a couple big wins or looking to avenge a loss in a major way.

The first half of your schedule (including the KOC) is very tough. If you go undefeated through the first six games, then you probably go undefeated (at least through the regular season). If Edgewater's QB and OL do not make a significant step up over the summer, I give Venice the edge at home, as Venice looked very good on tape in your jamboree. But it will still be a very good game.

As I type this, Venice is an early favorite to at least make it to the 8a Regional final this year, and, perhaps, beyond.

I had a feeling you were gonna say Venice would lose to Cocoa!

Not sure about Undefeated  but possible 8-2 or 9-1 at best

Is week 10 Sarasota Riverview or the one out of Tampa?

Sarasota. Also, kind of off topic, but do you happen to know when the last time Venice and Columbia played each other, if at all? I have not been able to find anything about it on the record books.

What a start to the season. Could lose the KOC and weeks 1-3. I think you’ll go 2-2 and then win out from there. Edgewater and CG as the teams to beat you.

Man I’ll just be happy if Venice can manage to give Northwestern a game. I don’t think Venice will lose to Edgewater, I think Gibbons is more likely to give us fits. We will see

1964

It looks like it was a playoff game where Columbia won 28-0 to punch their first ticket to a state title game in the playoffs second year of existence

It appears to be only matchup between the two programs

Thank you. Hopefully, if Venice relocates into a smaller district next year, they can set a week to play each other.

Trap game not necessarily a loss. Feel like it will be an offensive battle with someone making a stop late and icing it with a late score.

As long as they play mistake free then Venice should win

What is the feeling as to how the 2021 team will compare to the 2020 team? What, if any, key players were missing in the spring game?

Venice don’t dodge anyone! Home field will help vs Gibbons. Broward’s least respected state champions. Very good head coach, Matt DuBuc.
interesting matchup with Edgewater! In my opinion, 2 teams that outplayed STA, but didn’t outscore em.
Bulls will always b tough. It’s not how u start vs NW, it’s how u finish(see AH).
Cocoa is always tough!
Wondering how Venice will match up with Deerfield or Columbus in 8a.

I watched the spring jamboree in length. This is going to be one of Venice’s best squads, if not the best, in school history. This Ryan Brown kid looks like the next coming of Bryce Carpenter. He has some really good receivers to throw to in Jayshonn Platt, Keon Sears, Damarion Escort, and Omari Hayes. I may Be forgetting a few. Defensively, a lot of the starters return. Although we lost Stefan Johnson to graduation, I feel confident in Trenton and the other players to really make that secondary click. Front four looked really physical too. The o-line looked a little shaky, but I think they’re going to be just fine. They just need a game or two to build some chemistry. Playing Miami Northwestern in their house right out of the gate is going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait for the season to start!

Very interesting. The 44-0 half game score vs. Manatee supports this. The Lakeland half is harder to interpret. Lakeland was missing a couple of key players (I thought they were missing Dindy as well, but he played in #73) and several weird/cheap things (a couple of key offsides penalties on 3rd or 4th and long that exploit the stupid H.S. rule; consecutive pooch kicks getting caught up in a stiff wind and falling flat for recoveries for Venice) happened that altered the path the half took.

I watched Brown's hudl tape before the game and thought he looked amazing. Of course, in a real game rather than a highlight tape, you can see he's not super developed as a passer. But, he'll be a beast running the ball like a bigger, faster Carpenter.

Yes. I believe Brown has to become a better passer if they want to beat Northwestern and Gibbons, and prove that Venice is a true threat in 8A. The defense looked really good. Lakeland is always a good program. They just need some more time to gel. I believe the same thing goes for Manatee, they just need time to get their footing about them.

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
