Josh is hard at work creating schedule breakdowns to preview the upcoming season, and this thread will serve as the home base for each of those breakdowns.

I don't know why you call Winter Park's schedule "middle of the road". They don't control their District schedule (Timber Creek, Hagerty, University, and Colonial). Their out of district schedule contains West Orange (KOC), Lake Nona, Lake Mary, Edgewater, Boone, Evans, and Lake Brantley. Those aren't exactly lightweights. The only teams that have been real weak lately are University and Colonial. Most teams have at least a few easy games on their schedules.

It’s about as middle of the road as it gets. You can’t count the KOC. So the only tough game is Edgewater. Boone and L Brantley are ok. So 1 good team and 2 decent ones

It’s actually a horrible schedule when you think about it. I would rate it a D. Edgewater bumps it to an D from an F.

Boone actually is going to be very good this year and has a great chance at winning Region 2. I won't fault WP for Colonial and University as they were stuck in a district with them, but they could have elevated the rest of their schedule some. It should be interesting to see how far they go in the playoffs. They certainly have some talent on their roster.

Lake Mary isn't that bad and Lake Nona also decent 

 

Outside of that only other tough games are probably Edgewater, Boone and maybe Lake Brantley as a decent team

But these teams are only “decent” because Winter Park isnt that good. They are “decent” 
 

If a top ranked team played this schedule it would be the laughingstock. Lake Nona, Lake Brantley, Winter Park, and Lake Mary are not good. They would get a running clock put on them by an elite team. 
 

so it is all perspective. If this was Lake Buena Vista schedule it would be pretty tough. Because they will be a first year team and probably pretty bad. If this was STA’s schedule it would be horrible. Perspective.

Lake Mary has been able to hang with Apopka as of late

 

Are you saying Apopka isn't good? I guarantee you they better than a lot of teams those national board clowns like to claim are elite every year

Winter Park finished 9-2 last year, losing only to Edgewater in the regular season and Apopka in the playoffs. This coming season, they will have Timber Creek, Hagerty, University, and Colonial in their District (they have no control of that schedule. Their other games are Edgewater, Boone, Evans, Lake Nona, Lake Mary, and Lake Brantley; that's not a bad non-district schedule. Their KOC opponent is West Orange. The Spring Jamboree was Dr Phillips and Apopka. You can only schedule non-district games against teams that want to schedule you as an opponent. If WP's schedule is weak, name several "good" Orlando area schools that have much tougher non-district schedules. I don't pay much attention to nolebull's comments because if I remember correctly from last season, his team would have had trouble against a girls' field hockey team that was playing short handed.

But, but, but ... when @nolebull813was there, they made the state finals. Could it have been the fact he was a stud ball player? JK, Nole knows football history, but I don't think there is any evidence that he was a big time baller himself.

What’s the sick obsession that nothing can be criticized? The schedule stinks. The teams outside of Edgewater are just average on a state scale. Everything doesn’t have to be great all the time. You don’t have to try and put lipstick on a pig and enter it in a beauty pageant. 
 

If you are trying to give an honest opinion, and it is met with insults, lies, and ignorance, then it’s hard to have an honest debate. 
 

The schedule is not good. There is no malice or agenda. And I know you can only get the teams on your schedule if they agree, but that is immaterial and doesn’t take away from the fact that the schedule is bad. And there is no proof unless someone posts a link that WP was actively looking for top teams to schedule.

I don't see where you mentioned any other Orlando area schools that have more difficult "out of district" schedules, so I guess it's fair to assume that most other Orlando area schools are scheduling in a similar manner. You say "The schedule is not good". I say that the "powers that be" at WP did a nice job of scheduling a good blend of local Orlando area schools, schools that are of similar size to WP and are within reasonable distance for fans to go to away games. Several of these teams have been very competitive recently, such as Edgewater, Lake Mary, Lake Brantley, and Lake Nona. Boone fielded a good team last year and returns a senior laden team that should be even better this year. Evans has been rebuilding under a popular HC and has been improving the past two years; they expect to be much better this year. Timber Creek has a strong program. The level of play in Central Florida has been improving over the last few years. It may not have the overall strength of South Florida, but it can compete on equal footing with any other region of the state. You say the KOC is meaningless, but I disagree. It may not count in the standings, but it can set the stage for what type of season a team experiences. And finally, not every top team in a region wants to schedule too many good teams in out of district play, so tougher opponents aren't always willing to risk a loss that could impact their ranking. I'm still waiting for you to name a few teams in Orlando with stronger out of district schedules.

Scheduling is extremely tough and I agree with you that WP has a balanced schedule overall; especially when you don't know which teams may surprise you in the new year.  But to your question of naming local schools in central Florida with stronger out of district schedules I would start off with Apopka. Similar degree of difficulty in district, but picked up not only Edgewater also West Orange, DP and Lakeland.  West Orange in a tougher district has Apopka, Boone, Wekiva and upcoming Ocoee.  DP same tough district has Apopka and Cocoa.  OHS has Cocoa and Manatee.  So yes, there are teams that have a more challenging out of district schedule when you look.

Jones has DP, IMG, Edgewater and Palmetto (manatee county).  Pretty challenging.

That’s a really good schedule. What privileges and resources does Jones have to secure that type of schedule that Winter Park is lacking? Besides the desire to schedule tough teams?

I don’t that many schedules right now because it’s freaking a huge secret or you have to pay for it. The FHSAA is one of the worst association in the country in regards to doing what is best for fans, players and coaches.

Winter Park should have an excellent team this year, so yes they could have done better.  What we don't know as scheduling is usually a 2 year proposition (home/away), is what they may have already been locked into.  Answer to your question is no comparison with privileges and resources available to WP vs Jones.

So it sounds like the coaches at Wp don’t have a desire to challenge themselves especially if they are projected to be really good. They were better than everyone they scheduled besides Edgewater. They are playing a one game schedule. It will be like last year. Lose to Edgewater, lose in the playoffs. No desire to grow and get better

Without question, they will probably be favored in every game but one.   I don't know their situation as I am not versed as well as others in teams throughout the state that are top 20.  I do know that our school typically has to travel to secured challenging games outside our local district.  Recently had two year schedule with Tampa Jesuit, two year schedule with Christopher Columbus (year they went to the finals) and now with Bradenton Manatee.  Could only speculate why we have to travel so far to pick up those types of games.
