Lake Brantley vs Bartram Trail

Lake Brantley runs the triple option. Thus, they run the ball about 80% of the time. But they will, opportunistically, pass when you least expect it. They can be a tough team to face if you are not familiar with their offense. Well over 10 years ago, they went up to BT and the game ended up being a shoot out with the final margin being about 3 points. I forget which team won.

This year's LB team is average plus by recent standards. The QB has a strong arm and good mobility while the Full Back is a load to bring down.

I don't know much about the current BT team. However, in the past, they have had good QBs and a solid running game. Their defensive weakness in the past has been their secondary.

Bartram has worse QB play than normal but a still solid running game. The defense this year has been better. 4-5 legit D1 guys there

4-5 D1 guys on the team or on defense?   I don't know the circumstances, but I see that in its last three games (two wins and a loss), BT has given up 33, 35 and 28 points respectively - leading me to take the over in this game, regardless of what it is.   ;)

That is an enigma isn't it? It's one of the reasons I think LB may have a shot, albeit, as slim one.

On defense.

4* DT, 4* DE committed to Michigan, 4* CB, CB/WR committed to West Point, and LB with D1 offers.

And this has certainly been one of their better defenses. They have typically been a team that scores 60 but gives up 50. I’ll be interested as to how they do against Apopka as they played them in the regular season a few years ago and gave up north of 500 yards rushing. Apopka didn’t throw a pass if I recall correctly

Apopka beat BTHS in the regional final (maybe semi final) two years ago.  It was a close game, BTHS was up at half time, but Apopka took control of the game in the second half to win by 15.  The year before that, I think Apopka had 600 yards against BT during the regular season.

BT defense is better this year than in past years.  19 PPG against a strong schedule .  Not the best, but not the worst.  They have a tendency to play a lot of different players throughout a game so defense can get a little ragged sometimes.

Darter, do the Lake Brantley and Apopka offenses look anything alike?   In other words, did Bartram Trails get a preview of Apopka last week (if not from an athlete standpoint, perhaps from a scheme standpoint)?

Yes and no. Both employ misdirection. But Apopka though it is still a running team, lines up in the spread about half the time. Also, when in the single wing, aside from sweeps and counters and trying to figure out who the ball will be snapped to, does not rely on misdirection to the extent RD did. It is more of a power running game.

The key to the game with BT will be whether Apopka can neutralize their QB, who although only a sophomore, is a legitimate dual threat and will likely be a Power 5 recruit should he continue to improve. If we can bottle him up I think APK wins by 14 or more.
