Week 1 is officially in the books, and the Southwest Florida Region delivered some incredible performances to kick off the 2025 season. From game-changing plays to dominating stat lines, athletes all across the region made their mark on opening week.

After reviewing box scores and standout highlights, we narrowed the field down to 10 finalists for the very first The Blitz – Southwest Florida Football Player of the Week award. We also spotlighted a few more athletes who were strongly considered.

Proved unstoppable with 92 receiving yards and two touchdown catches, plus a rushing score; added eight tackles, four for loss, and 3.5 sacks in a 36–12 win over Gateway Charter.

DE/TE Jadell Carter, South Fort Myers

Piled up 16 tackles (four for loss) with four sacks and added a receiving touchdown in a 46–6 win over Gateway.

ATH Jaylen Francis, Port Charlotte

Scored on a 90-yard kickoff return and a 37-yard punt return in a 62–0 win over Island Coast.

WR Jeramiah Guidie, Community School

Hauled in five receptions for 177 yards and three touchdowns in a 49–0 win over Oasis.

RB Daniel Haith, Bonita Springs

Rushed 34 times for 237 yards and three touchdowns in a 32–22 win over Ida Baker.

LB/ATH Mack Mitchell, Evangelical Christian

Registered five tackles with three for loss, three sacks, and an interception in a 29–0 win over First Baptist.

WR Tavares Powell, Southeast

Scored four touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) while totaling 70 yards of offense in a 42–0 win over Robinson.

QB Brycen Volz, Parrish Community

Completed 13 of 16 passes for 171 yards and five touchdowns in a 48–7 win over North Port.

QB Jaydis Wiley, Bayshore

Threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 57 yards, accounting for all 312 offensive yards in a 36–30 overtime win over Sarasota.

RB Jermain Skinner, Cape Coral

Powered the ground game with 126 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in a 40–10 win over North Fort Myers.
