SARASOTA – The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has reported that Imagine School of North Port is eliminating its 2014 football season after the required numbers to field a proper team were not met.
The school which was going into its second full year of varsity football, has been seen a lot of changes in the last year with everything from losing players, to dropping out of district play and changing head coaches.
Per, the Herald-Tribune report, the program yielded less than 10 players in the first three days of practice which is far from the 21-23 players needed for a safe and competitive program, head coach Tyler Zebkar told the paper.
The plan now is for the program to disband officially from the FHSAA Football State Series and comes on the hills of another program, Barrington Christian making the same move just a week ago.
Students who still want to play football will be able to do so at North Port High School, which is not far from the Imagine School campus.
Imagine School was set to play in the Gulf Atlantic Division of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference this season as an independent.
