LAKE CITY – With the regular season coming to end these will be the final rankings for the Florida HS Football Media Poll based upon the regular season. One final poll will come out after the conclusion of the state championships in December.
Miami Central still sits a top of the Large School Division Rankings as the No. 1 team a spot it has held on for most weeks during the season. Booker T. Washington continues to stay put in the No. 1 position in the Small School Division Rankings, a position is has held wire-to-wire for the regular season and will likely go wire-to-wire for the entire season if they claim the Class 4A state championship early next month.
The most notable shifts in the Large Schools Division Rankings include St. Thomas Aquinas dropping from No. 5 to No. 12 after losing to now No. 11 Deerfield Beach, 22-7 this past week. Deerfield Beach was ranked No. 19 last week. Mainland jumped up two spots to No. 15, while Niceville jumped up 3 spots from No. 20 to No. 17.
10-0 teams Merritt Island and Fleming Island join the rankings for the first time this season and enter the playoffs in prime position to make a run deep the regional bracket.
Previously ranked Ed White and Kathleen dropped out of the Large School Division Rankings, but still received votes going into the playoffs.
Shift in the Small School Division Rankings include Tampa Catholic dropping five spots from No. 5 to No. 10 after losing to Tampa Jesuit for the 14th straight year 13-9. University School drops from No. 2 to No. 4 after losing to Large Schools No. 1 Miami Central 28-3, a game where both teams were nationally ranked. Bolles plummeted from No. 11 to No. 17 after losing to No. 17 Niceville on the road. Bolles closed out the season with a 7-3 record.
Trinity Catholic is the lone small school team to return to the rankings this year after being ranked at the start of the season. The Celtics checked in at No. 20, tied with Gulliver Prep. Trinity Catholic finished the regular season with a 7-3 record.
