Here are our predictions for the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Last Week: 6-2 – 1A
Northview (4-6) at Cottondale (7-4)
Both teams manage to win last week and shock the Class 1A – Region I bracket. Northview, the defending Class 1A state champion, is going to be working hard to pull off another shocker this week against a much better Cottondale team. However, Cottondale wants to prove it is a better team than most have thought it would be this year in this game. No matter what, the winner is likely going to face Blountstown in the state semifinal, a team that has only been close being defeated once this season. Nonetheless, this should be an exciting game for either team.
Prediction: Cottondale 21, Northview 17
Port St. Joe (8-3) at Blountstown (11-0)
Blountstown is on a roll and this could be bad news for Port St. Joe who is looking to make run here in its first playoff appearance in a while. Blountstown has only been brought down to the wire once this season and with the path to Orlando looking the way it is, it might be hard for anyone to bring this team down, even with the success Port St. Joe has had on the field. Look for another win by the the Tigers over the Tiger Sharks.
Prediction: Blountstown 30, Port St. Joe 14
Trenton (9-1) at Hamilton County (5-5)
Trenton finally got to finish off a game against Lafayette this year after having its Week 1 contest against the Hornets get washed out. The Tigers will now take on the Trojans of Hamilton County in Jasper. Hamilton County played a decent game against Bell last week, but will need to play almost perfect football to get to the state semifinals. The winner here faces either Dixie County or Union County in the state semifinals.
Prediction: Trenton 35, Hamilton County 28
Union County (10-1) at Dixie County (9-0)
The Union County Tigers and Dixie County Bears are getting a rematch this week. The Tigers are looking for revenge while the Bears are looking to go 2-0 against their district rival. The last time these two teams meet Dixie County won this game pretty easily and we feel we will see the same result once again. Dixie County is just too good to be stopped at this point.
Prediction: Dixie County 31, Union County 14
