Here is the latest Prep Zone Power Poll covering 26 counties in North & North Central Florida. Florida HS Football holds a vote in the Prep Zone Power Poll.
Gainesville — There was some movement in the top 10 of the final regular season Prep Zone Power Poll, but two teams in the top 10 lost. Now it’s on to the playoffs.
There wasn’t a change at the top, however. Mainland (Daytona Beach) finished a perfect 10-0 regular season with a 28-17 win at Fort Pierce Central and remains the unanimous #1 team. The Buccaneers won another 6A-9 district title and will open up the playoffs at home against South Lake (Groveland) in the regional quarterfinals.
First Coast (Jacksonville) remained #2 after slipping past then-#10 Ed White (Jacksonville),19-14, scoring in the final minute to wrap up another 10-0 regular season. Senior quarterback DeAndre Johnson, an FSU commit, finished his career at First Coast 38-1 in regular season games. The Buccaneers open up the 8A playoffs at home vs. #19 DeLand in a regional quarterfinal game.
Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) hammered Vanguard (Ocala) to finish the regular season 7-2 and the defending 3A state champion Conquerors passed South Sumter (Bushnell) to move into the the third spot. Trinity Christian will begin defense of its state title at home Friday night against Maclay (Tallahassee). South Sumter slipped past Leesburg 34-28 to finish another 10-0 regular season, but that didn’t stop the Raiders from falling one spot to #4. South Sumter has a tough opening game at home in the 5A regional quarterfinals against #13 North Marion (Citra).
Clay (Green Cove Springs) finished off a 9-1 regular season with an easy win over Clay County rival Middleburg, 56-36. The Blue Devils round out the top five, staying one point ahead of #6 Oakleaf (Orange Park), who handed Clay it’s only loss this season. Oakleaf defeated Menendez (St. Augustine), 21-12, to finish off the first undefeated regular season in school history. Clay, the defending 5A state runner-up, opens up at home in the regional quarterfinals against Westside (Jacksonville), while Oakleaf hosts it’s first playoff game in the 7A quarterfinals against Wekiva (Apopka).
St. Augustine is No. 7. The Yellow Jackets open up in the 6A playoffs at home against #14 Columbia (Lake City). Trinity Catholic (Ocala) is 8th, undefeated Dixie County (Cross City) comes in at #9 and Bolles (Jacksonville) moves back into the top 10 at #10 after beating last year’s 7A state runner-up Niceville, 31-14, last week.
Suwannee (Live Oak) lost a chance at an undefeated season with a 42-14 loss at rival Columbia (Lake City) and dropped five spots from #6 to a tie for 11th with Ed White (Jacksonville). The Commanders only fell one spot from #10 after the close loss at First Coast.
Suwannee’s drop was the largest in the poll this week, while Columbia made the biggest move up the poll, going from 17th to 14th after the win over rival Suwannee.
All 20 teams in the Prep Zone Power Poll have qualified for the state playoffs.
