We have come up with a new way to get the information that we wan to give to our Premium Subscribers in a much quicker and easier to read version. Welcome to Quick Hitters, giving you a quick rankings run down for each and the top five games. We might also include a few tidbits on what is going in the region as well depending on what it is about.
Here is this week’s Quick Hitters for the Broward County Region for Week 4.
Quick Hits
McArthur off to quick start
It was only a year ago that McArthur at this time was en route to an 0-10 season under Buster Davis who only coached the Mustangs for the year.
After Davis left, Laron Culpepper took over the reigns, looking to put a struggling Mustang football program back together and making the changes to put McArthur back on the map.
Now it seems the pieces have fallen into place as McArthur has moved to 3-0 on the season with distict play opening up this week against South Broward in District 7A-15.
Miramar bounces back
Miramar, which is now 1-2, has bounced back to life after blowing out Monarch last week.
The Patriots, opened up the first two weeks of the season with blowout losses to IMG Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas, setting in motion of questions if Miramar would be relevant this year. But everyone shouldn’t press panic just yet.
It seems that Miramar can still be a playoff contender, but that answer will start to come together over the next few weeks as the Patriots will lock in district games on the schedule.
Challenges ahead for District 5A-16
We will soon start to sort out the realities of District 5A-16.
If looking at the FloridaHSFootball.com and Associated Press rankings this week, you will noticed that four teams are ranked from the 5A-16. That would be Plantation American Heritage, Hallandale, Coconut Creek and Miami Jackson.
However, don’t expect that to last forever with district play starting this week.
Two of those four teams will actually meet this week with, Plantation American Heritage hosting Coconut Creek. That game will decided a lot if Coconut Creek has a chance to be a playoff contender this year.

Top 5 Games
Friday
No. 6 Coconut Creek (2-1) at No. 3 Plantation American Heritage (2-1): This game will decided a lot of things early on how the District 5A-16 race will play out. An upset win by Coconut Creek could turn things upside down.
Cardinal Gibbons (1-2) at Miami Jackson (1-1): Most years Cardinal Gibbons is usually competitive, but considering just how crazy District 5A-16 looks, this game could either mean something or not mean something a few weeks from now.
Key West (1-2) at North Broward Prep (2-0): A Gold Coast Conference game between last year’s conference runner-up in Key West and undefeated North Broward Prep team. A win for either team will set the tone towards winning the conference.
No. 8 Plantation (2-1) at Miramar (1-2): This will be an early District 8A-12 contest that could likely decided the district runner-up. Whoever emerges as the victor in this game will have an edge for the rest of the district schedule.
Everglades Prep (3-0) at Chaminade-Madonna (2-0): Everglades Prep is new to district play, but they are have been a surprising team so far in rolling up a 3-0 record. Chaminade-Madonna looks improved and should be in the hunt for a playoff spot.
