GAINESVILLE – As spring football begins around the state, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) announced the launch of a three-week long promotion to rename the football state championships. The contest began with a call for fans and the public to submit names on the FHSAA website.
“The previous ‘Road to Orlando’ campaign has served us well for several years, but we felt like it was time to choose a name that will represent the excitement surrounding our football state championships for many years to come” said FHSAA Executive Director Roger Dearing. “This championship belongs to the teams and fans so it is important that they have the opportunity to choose a name that reflects the passion they have for high school football throughout Florida.”
By visiting FHSAA.org and clicking on the Name the Tradition link, fans will have the opportunity to submit entries through Tuesday, May 3rd, when the list will be narrowed to six finalists by a blue ribbon prep-sports media committee.
When submitting entries, participants should avoid any names that reference a specific city or host location and all entries must be less than 5 words and 35 total characters. On Tuesday May 10th, FHSAA will publish the finalists on FHSAA.org for four days of public voting to determine the new name for the lead up to and the championship games themselves with the winner announced on Monday, May 16th.
Fans and participants can learn more about the promotion by visiting FHSAA.org and clicking on the “Name the Tradition” link on the homepage and can join in the conversation by using the hashtags #namethetradition and #FHSAA on social media.
