GAINESVILLE (June 2) – Senior quarterback Sydney Stout of Class 1A state champion Robinson High School has been named the Florida Dairy Farmers 2021 Miss Flag Football and Justin Shive of Class 2A state champion Newsome High School has been named the 2021 Flag Football Coach of the Year.
Stout led Robinson to its fifth straight state title by completing 469-of-623 passes (74 percent) for 5,086 yards with 111 touchdown passes and only nine interceptions. Stout set state records for passing yards, TD passes, and completion percentage.
Class 2A Player of the Year honors went to junior quarterback Devyn Silvestri of Newsome High School, who led her squad to the 2A state title by completing 320-of-490 passes for 3,798 yards with 54 TDs and 12 interceptions. She also rushed for 500 yards on 84 carries with 13 TDs and had 16 interceptions on defense.
Shive led Newsome to the Class 2A state title with a 22-1 record, beating top-ranked Western in the championship game. The only blemish on Newsome’s record was a 22-18 loss against Class 1A state champion Robinson, which finished the season on a 50-game winning streak.
Joshua Saunders was named Class 1A Coach of the Year after leading Robinson to a 22-0 record and its fifth straight championship. In 15 years at Robinson, he has won six state titles while compiling a 189-27 record.
