While some teams have already claimed a district championship, a lot more teams can add to the list in Class 5A through Class 8A and lock up playoff spots for next month. Here is a look at where things stand right now in Class 5A as we head into Week 9.
Records show are district standings only, not overall records.
DISTRICT 5A-1
Wakulla, 2-0
West Florida, 2-1
Pensacola, 1-1
Godby, 1-2
Arnold, 0-2
OUTLOOK: Wakulla can clinch the district championship this week with a win over Arnold while West Florida will need Wakulla to drop the next two games with Arnold and Pensacola to get a shot at the district championship which seems highly unlikely.
DISTRICT 5A-2
Ed White, 3-0
Baker County, 2-0
Suwannee, 1-1
Bishop Kenny, 0-2
Paxon, 0-2
OUTLOOK: Ed White can claim the district championship this week with a win, but a Baker County win and a combination of Suwannee winning out with wins over Bishop Kenny and Baker County the next two weeks would force the RPI rankings to break the tie after Week 11.
DISTRICT 5A-3
Raines, 2-0 – CLINCHED
Terry Parker, 2-1
Yulee, 1-2
Ribault, 0-2
OUTLOOK: With Raines having already beat Terry Parker and Yulee, the Vikings have already clinched the District 5A-3 championship regardless of the outcome against neighborhood and district rival Ribault this weekend.
DISTRICT 5A-4
Clay, 3-0
North Marion, 2-0
Menendez, 1-1
Palatka, 0-3
Eastside, 0-3
OUTLOOK: It appears we are heading on a Week 10 collision course with Clay and North Marion likely to decide this district. Clay cannot clinch the district regardless of the result this week from North Marion’s game against Menendez.
DISTRICT 5A-5
Dunnellon, 2-0
Leesburg, 2-0
Citrus, 1-1
Crystal River, 1-2
Lake Weir, 0-3
OUTLOOK: Dunnellon and Leesburg will meet this week which could decide a lot of things of who is going to likely lock down the district championship. For Dunnellon, a win combined with a Citrus loss to Lake Weir would give Dunnellon the district championship. For Leesburg, a win over Dunnellon would clinch the district outright for them.
DISTRICT 5A-6
Eustis, 2-0
Tavares, 2-0
Mount Dora, 1-1
Horizon, 1-2
Lake Buena Vista, 0-3
OUTLOOK: A Tavares win over Eustis this week would clinch the district outright for Tavares to send them to the playoffs. For Eustis, they will need a win over Tavares plus a Mount Dora loss to Lake Buena Vista to officially clinch the district championship this week. A three-way tie scenario is possible if Eustis were to win this week.
DISTRICT 5A-7
Seabreeze, 2-0
Deltona, 2-1
Bishop Moore, 1-1
Atlantic (Port Orange), 1-1
Pine Ridge, 0-3
OUTLOOK: Thanks to Seabreeze’s huge thumping of Bishop Moore last week, Seabreeze can clinch the district championship as early as this week with a victory over Pine Ridge and a Bishop Moore victory over Atlantic. Scenarios for a three-way tie do exist if Seabreeze does not clinch this week.
DISTRICT 5A-8
Merritt Island, 3-0
Rockledge, 3-0
Satellite, 2-1
Palm Bay, 1-2
Bayside, 0-3
Titusville, 0-3
OUTLOOK: Rockledge can outright clinch the district championship with a victory over Merritt Island this week, but if Merritt Island wins this week and Satellite wins out the remaining two district games, a three-way tie scenario could be in play for the district next week.
DISTRICT 5A-9
Zephyrhills, 3-0
Wesley Chapel, 2-1
Hudson, 2-1
Nature Coast, 2-1
Weeki Wachee, 0-3
Cypress Creek (Wesley Chapel), 0-3
OUTLOOK: Zephyrhills could clinch the district with a win over Nature Coast this week combined with a Hudson loss to Wesley Chapel. If Zephyrhills loses, that sets up a whole new set of possibilities for what can happen in this district going into Week 10 as that would put three teams sitting at 2-1.
DISTRICT 5A-10
Clearwater, 3-0
Gibbs, 2-1
Tarpon Springs, 2-1
Dunedin, 1-2
Gulf, 1-2
Anclote, 0-3
OUTLOOK: The name of the game is simple for Clearwater – beat Tarpon Springs on Friday, the district championship will be in the Tornadoes’ hands along with a playoff berth. However, a loss here could set up a possible three-way tie scenario for Week 10.
DISTRICT 5A-11
Middleton, 1-0
Chamberlain, 1-0
Robinson, 0-2
OUTLOOK: Middleton and Chamberlain will decide who will win this district next week when Chamberlain travels over to Middleton.
DISTRICT 5A-12
Sebring, 1-0
Port Charlotte, 1-0
Hardee, 0-1
Booker, 0-1
OUTLOOK: Sebring and Port Charlotte can shut Booker and Hardee out of contention this week for the district championship with victories this week to set up a district championship meeting next week. However, anything else off this track would set up some interesting scenarios for next week.
DISTRICT 5A-13
Estero, 3-0
Mariner, 2-1
Cypress Lake, 2-1
Bonita Springs, 1-2
Island Coast, 1-2
LaBelle, 0-3
OUTLOOK: Things are simple this week for Estero in clinching a district championship – defeat Island Coast. That is all it will take to seal the district and a playoff berth. However, a loss here could set up an interesting scenario that if two losses to Island Coast and Bonita Springs could take Estero full out of the district championship scenario – but we will approach that bridge if we get to it.
DISTRICT 5A-14
Stranahan, 2-0
American Heritage (Plantation), 1-0
Boynton Beach, 1-1
Jensen Beach, 0-3
OUTLOOK: American Heritage could set up next week’s meeting with Stranahan with a district championship on the line with a win over Boynton Beach this week. However, if Boynton Beach were to pull the upset, it will set up some interesting scenarios for Week 10.
DISTRICT 5A-15
Miami Central, 2-0
North Miami Beach, 2-0
Miami Springs, 1-2
Hialeah-Miami Lakes, 0-3
OUTLOOK: Miami Central and North Miami Beach meet on Saturday where the winner will clinch the District 5A-15 championship and a playoff berth.
DISTRICT 5A-16
Miami Killian, 3-0 – CLINCHED
Key West, 2-1
Miami Jackson, 1-2
St. Brendan, 0-3
OUTLOOK: Miami Killian has already clinched the District 5A-16 championship as all district games have been completed.
