Nine weeks are in the books for the 2021 Florida high school football season and the FHSAA has released their latest look at the RPI football playoff rankings as we head into Week 10 of the season.
As such this update provides the entire state a glimpse of what the potential playoff matchups could be looking like come the second week of November, but remember things change, as we still have three weeks worth of games (including this week) to go, however, the playoff picture is starting to become much more clearer with few games left.
In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.
For Class 5A, you will find a breakdown of RPI rankings for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.

PROJECTED DISTRICT CHAMPS
This is based on current district standings and taking the highest-rated team among the district standings if they have won district games. Should a district not have any district games played as of yet, the highest-rated team will be mythically slotted in as a district champion for projection purposes only. Teams highlighted in red have officially clinched their district championship.
5A-1: Wakulla – No. 3
5A-2: Baker County – No. 1
5A-3: Raines – No. 2
5A-4: Clay – No. 4
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 8 Terry Parker vs. No. 1 Baker County
No. 5 West Florida vs. No. 4 Clay
No. 6 Ed White vs. No. 3 Wakulla
No. 7 Bishop Kenny vs. No. 2 Raines
QUICK THOUGHTS: With three of the four districts clinched in this region this week, Clay and North Marion’s playoff hopes almost 100% rely on clinching their district championship to get into the bracket. Baker County is on track to get the No. 1 seed while the top-ranked team in the region, West Florida is guaranteed no higher than a No. 5 seed with Wakulla winning the district championship.

5A-5: Dunnellon – No. 2
5A-6: Tavares – No. 3
5A-7: Seabreeze – No. 4
5A-8: Merritt Island – No. 1
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 8 Bayside vs. No. 1 Merritt Island
No. 5 Rockledge vs. No. 4 Seabreeze
No. 6 Satellite vs. No. 3 Tavares
No. 7 Leesburg vs. No. 2 Dunnellon
QUICK THOUGHTS: With half of the districts clinched in Region 2, nothing really changes what is expected to play out except that District 5A-8 has some interesting scenarios on its hands with likely three teams to represent that district in the playoffs. Merritt Island is now projected as the No. 1 seed at this moment, but things aren’t over yet, especially if Satellite pulls the win over the Mustangs, setting up for a three-way tie scenario. Another thing to note is Seabreeze and Tavares changed the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds thus setting up for some interesting matchups if this holds. As for the No. 8 seed, Bayside would be in at this time over Palm Bay due to winning percentage as those two teams have not played head-to-head as of yet, but will this week, which makes this scenario short-lived at most.
REGION 3

5 | Wesley Chapel | 5-2 | 0.559 |
6 | Gibbs | 5-3 | 0.555 |
7 | Port Charlotte | 4-3 | 0.541 |
8 | Hudson | 5-3 | 0.519 |

5A-9: Zephyrhills – No. 1
5A-10: Clearwater – No. 2
5A-11: Chamberlain – No. 4
5A-12: Sebring- No. 3
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS
No. 8 Port Charlotte vs. No. 1 Zephyrhills
No. 5 Nature Coast vs. No. 4 Chamberlain
No. 6 Wesley Chapel vs. No. 3 Sebring
No. 7 Gibbs vs. No. 2 Clearwater
QUICK THOUGHTS: With their win last week which also clinched a district championship, Zephyrhills moves up to the No. 1 seed over Clearwater who falls to the No. 2 seed. Right now as it stands that the district champion from District 5A-11 is likely going to have a losing record going into the playoffs, which is not an ideal scenario given the goal of the FHSAA was to never have three-team districts, but could not be avoided when Mulberry rejected the district placement and decide to remain independent this season. For Wesley Chapel with their big win over Hudson, last week sees them move from the No. 8 seed to the No. 6 seed this week while Port Charlotte moves into the No. 8 spot, potentially leaving Hudson’s playoff chances hanging in the balance.

5A-13: Estero – No. 4
5A-14: American Heritage (Plantation) – No. 3
5A-15: Miami Central – No. 2
5A-16: Miami Killian – No. 1
PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS

No. 5 Stranahan vs. No. 4 Estero
No. 6 Key West vs. No. 3 Miami Central
No. 7 Boynton Beach vs. No. 2 American Heritage
QUICK THOUGHTS: With three of the four districts decided in Region 4, the playoff picture is starting to shape up some. However, as it stands right now, Miami Central might miss out on getting a Top 2 seed in the region which could force the Rockets on the road after the first round depending on how things shake out. The biggest loser this week? North Miami Beach which falls outside now of the projected seeds for the region.
