EDITOR’S NOTE: Corrected the school information for Reggie Heywood for Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale) not Calvary Christian (Clearwater) which both happen to be in the same classification.
All-State teams for the 2022 season will be dropping next week on FloridaHSFootball.com and in the led up to that, we have narrowed down the list of the five candidates that are in consideration for our Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year in each of the nine classifications as well as in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference. Also, one of the players between the Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year candidates will be named Overall Player of the Year for their classification.
And for the second year in a row, we are giving fans a vote to decide on who will win the fan vote for each of our three categories for Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year in every classification.
Voting will run through 9 PM EST / 8 PM CST on Thursday, February 16, 2023. You may vote unlimited times during the poll and the poll does have trackers to prevent bot voting.
Here are the candidates for the Class 2M Offensive Player of the Year, Class 2M Defensive Player of the Year, and Class 2M Coach of the Year along with polls for each section!
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
RB Mark Fletcher, American Heritage (Plantation) – A beast of a running back, Fletcher was in full form in 2022 with 1,923 yards rushing along with 24 touchdowns, helping the Patriots reach the Class 2M title game.
RB Reggie Heywood, Calvary Christian (Clearwater) – Heywood had a huge senior year helping the Eagles reach the playoff with a district championship rushing for 1,879 yards and 22 touchdowns. Heywood also had 104 yards receiving and a touchdown, plus returned a kickoff for a touchdown and converted a two-point conversion during the season.
WR Brandon Inniss, American Heritage (Plantation) – Inniss was a huge part of the passing game for the Patriots in their run to the Class 2M title game with 1,336 yards receiving on 73 catches and having 16 touchdowns to go along with that.
QB Keyone Jenkins, Miami Central – The leading quarterback for the Rockets’ state title and national title run, Jenkins had 2,282 yards passing with 27 touchdowns against just four interceptions. He also rushed for 351 yards on 56 carries and nine more touchdowns.
QB Blake Murphy, American Heritage (Plantation) – The leader of the Patriots’ offense, Murphy did it with his arms along with his feet throwing 26 touchdowns with 2,546 yards passing and adding 301 yards rushing and five more touchdowns in helping American Heritage reach the Class 2M title game.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
DL Ruben Bain Jr., Miami Central – Bain was a pain for opposing offenses, making them pay for it with his collection of 29 sacks and 37 tackles for loss to pair with the 57 tackles he had in helping the Rockets reach the Class 2M title and winning one of the mythical national championships awarded by various media outlets around the nation.
LB Stanquan Clark, Miami Central – Clark arguably had the second biggest impact on the Rockets’ defense outside of Bain with 102 tackles along 15 sacks and 26 tackles for loss in helping guide the Rockets to state and national titles.
DL Lamont Green Jr., Gulliver Prep (Pinecrest) – A huge defensive force for the Raiders, Green racked up 20 sacks along with 29 tackles for loss to pair with 61 tackles. He also added a blocked kick to his statistics during the season.
DB Daemon Fagan, American Heritage (Plantation) – A key weapon in the Patriots’ defense, a lot of teams avoided throwing in Fagan’s direction with the limited interceptions he had this season, but he still made an impact with 78 tackles, three interceptions and forcing two fumbles while helping the Patriots reach the Class 2M title game.
DL Keon Keeley, Berkeley Prep (Tampa) – An all-state selection last year in Class 3A, Keeley had another strong season racking up 40 tackles along 23.5 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, and forcing five fumbles.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Reggie Crume, Calvary Christian (Clearwater) – Guided the Warriors to a 10-3 finish and their deepest playoff run in program history, reaching the regional finals.
Jube Joseph, Miami Central – A long-standing member of the Rockets coaching staff, he guided them to the Class 2M title and a national championship in his first season as head coach.
Cory Moore, Lakewood – Guided the Spartans to a 9-5 finish with another trip to the final four in back-to-back seasons.
Mike Smith, American Heritage (Plantation) – In his first year as head coach, Smith guided the Patriots back to the state championship game for the first time since the 2020 season.
Matt Tobin, Bolles (Jacksonville) – Led Bolles to their four consecutive trips to the state semifinals in as many seasons, finishing the 2022 season with a 9-5 overall record.
