With high school football back in full swing around the state, the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week Awards have returned for the 2023 season. Along with nominations from coaches and media and research from scoutSMART and FloridaHSFootball.com we will present to you five candidates for the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week.
Voting is open to fans to help decide who should be the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week for Week 9 is now through 12 p.m. on Friday, October 27 and the winner will be announced on Friday by scoutSMART and FloridaHSFootball.com social media platforms later that afternoon!
EDITOR’S NOTE: The scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week poll is intended to be fun, and without limits, and be supported with good sportsmanship. However, at anytime that is suspected that votes received for an athletes that are generated by any means outside of human voting will be disqualified from the poll.
QB Battle Alberson, Gulf Breeze – Battle went 23-of-31 passing for 280 yards and one touchdown while adding 14 carries on the ground for 110 yards rushing and a touchdown in the Dolphins’ 27-20 victory over Tate (Cantonment).
QB Anthony Barbar, Westminster Academy (Fort Lauderdale) – Went 20-of-22 passing for 356 yards and five touchdowns in the Lions’ 41-0 victory over SmartEn Sports Academy (Miami).
QB Bjørn Jorgensen, Bishop Moore (Orlando) – Jorgensen had an impressive game in a 59-0 victory over Deltona going 10-of-17 passing for 215 yards and six touchdowns while adding one rushing touchdown to his stats.
QB Trace Johnson, Buchholz (Gainesville) – In only eight starts as a quarterback, Johnson by far had his best game of his young career going 21-of-28 passing for 387 yards and three touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 44-7 victory over Bartram Trail (St. Johns).
QB Kane LaFortune, Niceville – Threw for 265 yards and set a school-record seven touchdowns in the Eagles’ 62-7 district win over Leon (Tallahassee).
ATH Daejuan Shanks, Bradford (Starke) – Shanks went 8-of-13 passing for 113 yards and two touchdowns and added 11 carries for 194 yards rushing and two more touchdowns in a 42-0 victory over Lecanto.
DE/MLB Xadrian Smith, Cocoa – Smith recorded five total tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks for the Tigers in their 63-0 win over Astronaut (Titusville)
ATH Ja’Kyrian Turner, South Sumter (Bushnell) – An all-around athlete for the Raiders, Turner had five carries for 75 yards and a touchdown on offense in a 40-20 victory over Vanguard (Ocala). On defense, he recorded four total tackles, one tackle for loss, blocked a kick, broke up a pass in the end zone near halftime, and returned an interception for a touchdown in the victory.
WR Marquet Williams, Oviedo – Had seven catches for 184 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the Lions and recorded one sack on defense in a 49-21 victory over Lyman (Longwood).
