DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. Trinity Catholic – The Celtics are once again being a team that could be a possible state title contender again. A good core of starters are returning including at the quarterback and defensive end positions. One of the key highlights right now for Trinity Catholic is the recruitment of 2016 DE Jordan Woods who has been receiving high profile offers over the offseason. The biggest overall difference this year is that Trinity Catholic will not have an automatic playoff berth.
Fighting It Out:
2. Maclay – The Marauders who were once a team that had seen little success has seen the past two seasons light up under coach Kyler Hall. Hall is got some excellent players returning including most of skill position players. This will be the first time Maclay enters district play in the school’s history, something Hall has been planning to do since he took over the program. Now the reality is he could have them in the playoffs in that very first year as well.
3. Father Lopez – The Green Wave have seen a big turnaround and putting together a 5-5 seasons last year was no easy task. However, with a decent amount of players returning including Boden at quarterback, the Green Wave could easily compete with Maclay for the second playoff spot. Overall, look for Father Lopez to continue the upward trend in its improvement.
Got Work To Do:
4. P.K. Yonge – Serious work is needed to get the Blue Wave in line to be a playoff contender and a setback occurred when Rob Cox stepped down earlier in July leading to former Eastside and Hawthorne head coach Kent Johnson to taking over. Johnson’s big goal right now is to improve the team and get things headed in the right direction, something that has not happened in the last few seasons for P.K. Yonge.
