Welcome, to the first installment of the 2014 Moving Van Report where we break down what has happened in regard to coaching changes in the state of Florida.
In this first installment we will start off with the coaching changes that have happened during the season, plus changes that have taken so far up until this evening.

Coaching Changes For Tuesday November 12, 2013
CHILES (TALLAHASSEE)
Mike Lassiter was fired after three seasons. First reported by Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat earlier this afternoon, Lassiter finishes with a 10-19 overall record, with no playoff appearances in the three seasons. School cited competitiveness for Lassiter being fired.
NATURE COAST TECH (BROOKSVILLE)
Charles Liggett resigned after three season today, as first reported by Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times. Liggett had been with Nature Coast for over a decade in various coaching positions prior to the last three as head coach. Liggett finishes with a 16-14 win with no playoff appearances during his tenure.
PINE RIDGE (DELTONA)
Scott Surgener resigned as head coach after season. Surgener’s resignation was reported earlier this afternoon by Buddy Collings of the Orlando Sentinel. Surgener was 2-28 over three seasons, but did have a 6-4 record on the field in 2011 before forfeitures took a hit on the team.
Coaching Changes announced during the season
CENTRAL (BROOKSVILLE)
Mike Einspahr resigned after four seasons at the helm as the school was seeking to go another direction with the program. As first reported by the Tampa Bay Times last week, Einspahr was 4-36 over the four season he was a head coach. The school is already seeking Einspahr’s replacement through an FHSAA classified advertisement.
CITRUS PARK CHRISTIAN (TAMPA)
Nathan Galan was removed as head coach during the season due an incident that resulted in a DUI, as first reported by Kelly Parsons of the Tampa Bay Times. This was the first year for Citrus Park Christian in playing 11-man football under a mixed junior varsity/varsity schedule. A classified advertisement has already been posted on the FHSAA website.
CORAL REEF (MIAMI)
The Barracudas dismissed Chevas Clements with one game left to go in the season after the team was eliminated from playoff contention. Clements had been with the team for nearly five seasons and told the Miami Herald that his firing came as a surprise to him. No time table has been set for a new coach to be hired.
CYPRESS LAKE (FORT MYERS)
Dale More was fired as the head coach as a result of a district game against Mariner where 26 players were suspended due to misconduct on the field. More was 1-17 in his two season as the head coach. Patrick McCarthy was named as the interim head coach to finish out the remainder of the season.
JENSEN BEACH
John Fey resigned after being relieved of his head coaching duties, due to the use of inappropriate language during Jensen Beach’s first game of the season. The Falcons promoted Tim Caffey from offensive coordinator to head coach for the remaining 9 games of the season in which Jensen Beach with a 5-5 and the Martin County Football Title for the 2013 season. It is unknown if Caffey will be name the permanent head coach going into 2014.
MUNROE DAY (QUINCY)
Head Coach Danny Hood was fired in mid-October after it was revealed that investigation was ongoing due to misconduct with a student as reported by multiple Tallahassee media outlets. Joey Edwards and Jimmy Harris were named interim co-head coaches for the remainder of he season. No time table was announced at the time for a permanent replacement for Hood.
OAK RIDGE (ORLANDO)
Ricky Watters didn’t last a full season with the program and was suspended due to an investigation that led to Watters resigning. In the process school manage to lure back Elijah Williams from FAMU, picking up where he had left off as head coach. Williams had resigned as Oak Ridge’s head man after the 2012 season to become an assistant at FAMU. The Orlando Sentinel reported that Williams had a record of 30-14 in his four seasons as head coach at Oak Ridge.
RIVERDALE (FORT MYERS)
Rob Hinson stepped down in early October as head coach, but remains on the staff of the football program. Athletic director Tom Roszell took over as interim head coach and a new head coach is expected to be named sometime during the offseason. Hinson finished with a 16-19 record according to the Fort Myers News-Press.
ST. JOHN NEUMANN (NAPLES)
Steve Howey left the school as head coach and athletics director in early October. Howey was 59-45 during his tenure as head coach and took the Celtics to the playoffs four times from a period going back to 2003. Howey had came to the school from Gulliver Prep, according to the Naples Daily News where he coaches that program to a state title in 2000 and was the head coach for Sean Taylor during his prep years. Howey’s overall career record is 124-71. Al Green took over the program for the remainder of the year and no timeframe has been announced when a permanent head coach will be hired.
SANTALUCES (LANTANA)
Daryl Drinkwater resigned after the final game of the season against Vero Beach to take a promotion within the Palm Beach County School District. Reported by multiple media outlets including the Palm Beach Post and ESPN 106.3 West Palm Beach, Drinkwater resigned after five seasons at the helm. He finished with a 22-28 record and had one playoff appearance during that time. The school wants to have a new head coach in place by the end of December.
SARASOTA
Ed Volz announced his resignation during the middle of the season to spend more time with his family, as reported by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Volz who has been with the program since 2010 currently has a 16-24 record with the school and will lead the Sailors into the playoffs on Friday night against Pinellas Park. The Sailors went 3-1 in the teams final four games to win the District 7A-10 title, a move that will send Volz off on a high note. A search for a new head coach will start after the Sailors season comes to a close.
SOUTHEAST (BRADENTON)
Legendary head coach Paul Maechtle is hanging up the whistle for good after this season. He will retire later in the school year as Southeast’s Athletic Director as part of an agreement when he entered the Florida Retirement Drop Program nearly five years ago. Multiple outlets including the Bradenton Herald and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported on Maechtle’s retirement prior to the season coming to a close. In his 33 years as head coach Maechtle will finish with a 283-105 record, two state titles and five overall state final appearances. No timetable has been set on finding Maechtle’s replacement.
WESTERN (DAVIE)
First year head coach Derek Segaloff resigned after a few weeks into the season after most of the players walked out and went on strike. According the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Segaloff resigned after going 0-4 to the start season and accusations by the players saying Segaloff was not ready to be a head coach. Jermaine Hollis was promoted to head coach after the move.
