District projections for Class 5A – Region I for the 2015 season.
District 5A-1
1. West Florida
2. Pensacola
3. Mosley
4. Arnold
5. Bay
Comment: West Florida is looking to be the best team in the district, but Pensacola and Mosley will both give tests to the Jaguars. It is likely that Pensacola and Mosley will decide the runner-up spot in the district and it could be very close. Arnold and Bay are still trying to find their grove, but Arnold is closer to making some noise than Bay at this point, despite having several key Division I athletes.
District 5A-2
1. Wakulla
2. Godby
3. Rickards
Comment: This is a three-team district of death pretty much with all three teams playoff worthy. Wakulla is bay far the most talented of the three teams, while Godby follows up behind them. October 1 will decided the fate of the district as both Wakulla and Godby square off. For Rickards, there is a lot to be said about being the underdog in the district, but certainly can make noise if they pull off a major win against Wakulla or Godby.
District 5A-3
1. Suwannee
2. Ribault
3. Yulee
4. Paxon
5. Stanton
Comment: This district is a bit interesting as it stretches along I-10 from Live Oak to Jacksonville. Suwannnee is a talented team that has rose back up over the last few years under Jamie Rodgers and will be the favorite to win the district. Suwannee, however, will have Ribault looking to pull off an upset in the district and should be aware of this. Yulee could be a team that might be in the race for the runner-up spot and will likely contend with Ribault for that spot. Paxon and Stanton round off the back end of the district.
District 5A-4
1. Bishop Kenny
2. Westside
3. Ponte Vedra
4. Wolfson
5. Terry Parker
Comment: Although Bishop Kenny will be a younger team this year, they are still the district favorite at this time to be the district champion. We like Westside here, especially the turnaround that has been made over the last couple of yeas. Ponte Vedra could challenge Westside for the runner-up spot, however. Wolfson and Terry Parker still have rebuilding to go through and likely won’t be in the playoff hunt at all this year.
