District projections for Class 5A – Region IV for the 2015 season.
District 5A-13
1. Bishop Moore
2. South Lake
3. Eustis
4. Tavares
5. Poinciana
Comment: Bishop Moore has been a consistent team has been able to reach the playoffs for a longtime and after the team’s deepest playoff run since 1970, the Hornets will once again have the chance to go deep this season. South Lake which reached the playoffs last year moves down from Class 6A and should easily be the second best team in the district. Eustis will play the role of the dark horse and could have something to say about the playoff spots. Tavares and Poinciana both have new head coaches and rebuilding projects to go through before a shot at the playoffs can be thought about.
District 5A-14
1. Palm Bay
2. Merritt Island
3. Titusville
4. Space Coast
5. Rockledge
6. Satellite
Comment:Last year was a total fluke for Palm Bay missing the playoffs and we feel that they will bounce back very strong this year and win the district against rival Merritt Island. Titusville will try to have something to say though again and an upset win against Palm Bay or Merritt Island could easily send the district into a tiebreaker situation. Space Coast moves up from Class 4A will be in the middle of the pack with the district while Rockledge and Satellite try to work their way back up into being possible playoff contenders.
District 5A-15
1. Port St. Lucie
2. Suncoast
3. Fort Pierce Westwood
Comment: This is another district where not a single team reached the playoffs last year, but this year two of those three teams will indeed reach the playoffs. Port St. Lucie will be the best team of the three teams and could even produce a potential winning record this season to go with the district championship. Suncoast will also have a chance at the playoffs, but Fort Pierce Westwood will also have a shot to claim the runner-up spot as well.
District 5A-16
1. American Heritage (Plantation)
2. Hallandale
3. Coconut Creek
4. Miami Jackson
5. Cardinal Gibbons
6. Stranahan
Comment: The is by far the deepest district within the state and five of these teams could be playoff teams, if they were spread out across other classifications. While some feel Hallandale could be the better team, we feel American Heritage has the better experience of the teams in the district and the know how to repeat amongst its peers. Coconut Creek and Miami Jackson will also be looking to have a say in how the district shapes up and we would not be surprised if the district ends up a potential district tiebreaker situation at the end of the season. Cardinal Gibbons and Stranahan however, might find it hard to compete with the top four teams due to the strength of the district.
