District Tournaments start Monday across this state this week in Girls Flag Football and we look at each of the four regions across the two FHSAA classifications in Girls Flag Football to give you some of our thoughts with the expanded district tournaments.

DISTRICT 1A-5

TEAMS: Daytona Beach Mainland, Daytona Beach Seabreeze, Deltona, Deltona Pine Ridge, Keystone Heights, Palatka, Palm Coast Matanzas, Port Orange Atlantic

GLANCE: The Mainland Buccaneers have dominated every team they have played on their side of the district this season and while they have not faced Keystone Heights, Palatka or Matanzas this season, none of them appear to be a threat on the path to the district championship, nor should any of the teams really pose a serious threat. Mainland has one of the best players in the state this season with Alexia Wilson who is a force both ways for the Buccaneers.

DISTRICT 1A-6

TEAMS: Fort Pierce Westwood, Jensen Beach, Kissimmee Gateway, Lake Placid, Okeechobee, Orlando Jones, Port St. Lucie, Sebring, Stuart South Fork

GLANCE: With this huge nine-team district, there is a lot to unpack here given that the district was split in half prior to the season for sub-districts, but with the rankings supplanting the traditional format, it is hard telling who really should have been the No. 1 seed. Really three teams seem to be on the path to possibly winning that district that includes Fort Pierce Westwood, Kissimmee Gateway, and Jones. But if it comes down to the path of experience of getting out of the district, it is going to be Westwood at the end of the day.

DISTRICT 1A-7

TEAMS: Belle Glade Glades Central, Boynton Beach, Boynton Beach Oxbridge Academy, Pahokee, Riviera Beach Suncoast, West Palm Beach Oxbridge Academy

GLANCE: Most teams in Palm Beach County did not get a full schedule this season so it is very hard to gauge just how good the programs in this district really are. Oxbridge Academy swept the district but drooped their last two games of the regular season while Suncoast seems to be the more experienced program with navigating district tournaments at this moment.

DISTRICT 1A-8

TEAMS: Fort Lauderdale Dillard, Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson, Oakland Park Northeast, Pompano Beach

GLANCE: Like their neighbors in Palm Beach County, fulfilling a full schedule this season was difficult for Broward County teams given the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions. Also add in that teams that were part of the district folded up before the season started has left us with four teams left standing for the district tournament. At this point, it comes down to Dillard and Pompano Beach and while neither are impressive, one of these two teams will land into the regional playoff bracket as a district champion.

PROJECTED DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

1A-5: Mainland
1A-6: Fort Pierce Westwood
1A-7: Oxbridge Academy
1A-8: Dillard
