After missing last week due to illness, Joshua Wilson is back with a look at the Class 1A Regional Rankings with complete analysis as we head into Week 3.
REGION 1
1. Baker, 0-0
2. Bratt Northview, 1-1
3. Freeport, 2-0
4. Vernon, 0-1
5. Panama City Bozeman, 1-1
6. Bonifay Holmes County, 2-0
ANALYSIS: Baker is still the team to beat in this region but has yet to play a game with Week 1 having been a bye week, and Week 2 seeing their season opener against Cottondale get canceled due to COVID-19 issues with the Hornets. This region will sort itself out in the coming weeks as some of the teams ranked will eventually play each other along the way.
REGION 2
1. Madison County, 0-1
2. Blountstown, 2-0
3. Sneads, 2-0
4. Port St. Joe, 2-0
5. Bristol Liberty County, 1-1
6. Wewahitchka, 0-1
ANALYSIS: While most feel Madison County is the team to beat coming out of this region, Blountstown, Sneads, and Port St. Joe are all off to hot starts and will land in the Class 1A Top 10 rankings. Liberty County and Wewahitchka will be both interesting to watch as we progress through the season.
REGION 3
1. Lake Butler Union County, 1-0
2. Trenton, 1-0
3. Cross City Dixie County, 0-1
4. Mayo Lafayette, 2-0
5. Hilliard, 2-0
6. Chiefland, 2-0
ANALYSIS: Right now, Region 3 is starting to look like the best region in Class 1A right now. Let’s start with Union County’s thumping of rival Bradford to welcome them to Class 1A. Trenton and Dixie County were to have played last week, but COVID-19 issues forced the game to be canceled. Lafayette, Hilliard, and Chiefland are all off to hot starts. Both Lafayette and Chiefland are under new head coaches this season.
REGION 4
1. Hawthorne, 2-0
2. Pahokee, 2-0
3. Wildwood, 0-0
4. Starke Bradford, 0-2
5. Fort Meade, 1-0
6. Newberry, 2-0
ANALYSIS: Bradford started off as our top team as a lot of people had them pegged for a great season, but the 0-2 start is not something we expected out of the gate, especially with a throttling taking place in the hands of Union County. Hawthorne is now our top team, while Pahokee is behind them with a hot 2-0 start. Wildwood, which has been affected with COVID-19 issues the last two weeks is third while Bradford falls to fourth in the region.
