DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — No. 9 Fort Pierce Central made a statement Friday, sweeping a pair of games at Mainland High School to improve to 3-0 on the season, outscoring opponents 59-0 on the day.
GAME 1: No. 9 Fort Pierce Central 46, No. 17 Spruce Creek 0
The Cobras opened the day by dismantling No. 17 Spruce Creek, with Kailee Grone leading the way on both sides of the ball. The sophomore completed 16-of-22 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns while adding four flag pulls, a sack and an interception on defense.
Karla Timothy was Grone’s top target, hauling in seven receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown. Ayanna Robertson-Tommie added five catches for 91 yards and a score, while Shawntravia Brown made her presence felt with three receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Kali Daniels contributed on the ground with two carries for nine yards and a rushing touchdown.
The Central defense was equally dominant. Naelah Breary led the way with six flag pulls, two interceptions — including a 40-yard return — and a pass breakup. Timothy recorded two flag pulls and an interception, and Rickiya White added a flag pull and an interception of her own.
Spruce Creek falls to 1-2 on the season.
GAME 2: No. 9 Fort Pierce Central 13, Mainland 0
Central kept its foot on the gas in the nightcap, shutting out host Mainland to complete the sweep.
Grone was again the engine of the offense, completing 11-of-26 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 3 times for 16 yards. She also recorded six flag pulls, an interception and a pass breakup on defense.
Timothy hauled in three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown, while Daniels caught one pass for 22 yards and a score. Robertson-Tommie contributed three receptions for 37 yards and caught the extra point conversion. Daniels also recorded five flag pulls and a pass breakup on defense, and Shawntravia Brown recorded two sacks and three flag pulls.
Mainland falls to 1-1 on the season.
