The first round of the playoffs for this season has been completed and here are five takeaways we took from the Class 6A Regional Quarterfinals from the first round.
15 of 16 District Champions Advance
What a night for the Class 6A bracket. 15 of 16 district champions advanced last night to the Regional Semifinals next week in what will lead to probably some of the best playoff match-ups we will see this season. No other classification besides Class 3A having this much success with district champions just doing what they had to do to keep the season alive. Again goes to show that Class 6A has to be one of the toughest playoff brackets in Class 6A.
District 1 gets totally wiped out
Escambia County lost it totally in Class 6A football last night when Escambia couldn’t hold off Navarre and Pensacola couldn’t pull the upset on Choctawhatchee. With that only District 1 is left without a team dancing into the Regional Semifinals next week dashing any hope of possibly Escambia making a run like some had expected.
Mainland looking like a well oiled machine
Some had concerns that Mainland was going to have some trouble in the playoffs with a couple of key players having been injured the last few weeks. However, the Buccaneers took care of business with a big win over the South Lake Eagles and will get to host Edgewater next week in Daytona. If Winter Haven wins this coming week Mainland could be home for the rest of the playoffs.
Hallandale gets to host epic match-up next week
Say what you want to say, but next week’s biggest Class 6A game might just be at Hallandale as the Chargers will host the Rockets in the Region IV – Regional Semifinals match-up. Hallandale which easily took care of business against Miami Northwestern will be the second team to get a crack to possibly stop the defending Class 6A state champion, Miami Central Rockets, next week. Expect this games to be totally sold out.
Boynton Beach runs out of gas
The Boynton Beach Bengal Tigers time in the playoffs this season was short-lived and it is likely one that they might want to forget. After getting out to a six nothing lead, Miami Central got the ball and started scoring, never looking back. The Rockets rolled through that with 49 straight points scored either by the offense or defense and brought Boynton Beach’s hopes of crashing the playoff party to a quick end.
