GAINESVILLE – The Florida High School Athletic Association has announced the new for the associations football playoffs after a three-week contest that saw over 425 names be submitted to the association for consideration, which was further narrowed down by a panel of blue-ribbon prep sports writers.
The new name from now on will be called “Drive to December.”
“Drive to December” was submitted by Mike Thompson, a 34 year-old Lakeland resident.
Voting which was conducted over a four-day span last week included Drive to December receiving 29% of the votes, while Gridiron Glory Series received 24% of the vote, Destination December taking in 20% of vote, The Great Eight receiving 16% of the vote while Stairway to State rounded out the five final with 11% of the vote.
“Drive to December” will conclude with the state championship games slated for the first two weekends of December with the official location to be announced very soon. That location has previously been reported by multiple media outlets as Daytona Beach, but it has not been considered official at this time.
