Skinny: This is a huge game of a team that has always been in the mix for state championship contingency year-in and year-out going against the defending Class 3A State Champions. For American Heritage, this game will be their season opener as they have been working around the clock for weeks to put a schedule together given that most of the teams on their schedule, especially in district play were public schools that are still on hold from having official practices as schools are just starting to move into the voluntary practice phase portion in the return to sports plan. As such the door opened for both teams to meet for the first time in two years. For the Patriots, they welcomed In transfer defensive back James Williams (2021) who comes over from Davie Western where he had 62 tackles, one sack, six interceptions, four pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and five forced fumbles last season. Vinson Davis III (2021) is back for his senior season catching 30 passes for 434 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Linebacker David Vadala (2023) who had an impressive freshman year making the Class 5A All-State Team back after collecting 114 tackles, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. Other key players to keep an eye include safety Boogsie Silvera (2021) and defensive back Earl Little Jr. (2022). For Chaminade-Madonna they are already one week into the season defeating defending Class 2A State Champion Champagnat Catholic last week 27-14 in what was a highly anticipated matchup between defending state champions. Thaddius Franklin Jr. (2021) who was the productive workhorse in the game rushing 29 times for 171 yards and scoring all four of the Lions’ touchdowns. It should be expected that he will carry a lot of the load again this week but keep an eye on cornerback Brian Dilworth (2021) and defensive Michael Edwards (2021) to create a lot of chaos against the passing game.
