MIAMI | The Miami Edison Red Raiders faced off against the Coral Gables Cavaliers in an exciting regulation half of football. The sun was shining bright and the breeze was soft and welcomed, it was the epitome of south Florida football.
The Red Raiders showcased a number of individual talents that couldn’t go unnoticed, as well as a strong team appearance. The Cavs had a 42 yard touchdown from sophomore running back Gregory Howell (8) early in the second half, and that was the end of their run. The Red Raiders defense stepped up and made every necessary block to hold the Cavs at 7.
Junior Linebacker Guy Hilaire 5’11-175 |
Junior linebacker Guy Hilaire (54) showed up multiple times to make key stops for Edison all over the field. Hilaire has a textbook wrap up style, stopping any offensive player in their track. In the half game of football that was played, he recorded numerous tackles, and a pass break up. Other noted defensive players include freshman tackle Wendell Green (50) with a fumble recovery, freshman linebacker Kedrick Labady (52) with a sack, and sophomore linebackerRoi Jean-Jospeh (11) with great overall coverage of the ball.
Sophomore athlete Franklin Labady 5’7-165 |
Offensively, Edison began the game with a 60 yard touchdown run by sophomore athlete Franklin Labady (1). The impressive QB keep may have surprised anyone not familiar with this Red Raiders team. In at quarterback, Labady balances his solid arm with his background as a running back. He is small for a quarterback (5’7-165), but he certainly plays bigger than his body. Not afraid of a challenge, Labady is regulary seen running through the opposing defense. Junior runningback Alex Pharr (2) is another physical player of the the same make. These two will be a deadly duo during the season.
By the end of the game, the Red Raiders had their rythm and remained under control. They ended with a 21-7 victory over the Cavaliers.
Junior WR Norris Simmons (7), Labady, and Pharr were the three scorers of the game.
Miami Edison has a young, explosive, well sized team. What then does the future hold for this squad? Only time will tell. The continuing development and coaching of these players are crucial to the success of the team. Coming off of a 6-4 season, I believe Edison is prepared for another winning season. It is VERY possible that they increase their wins. Stay tuned.
