The Florida Power Rankings Index has been in development over the last four years, following the passing of rankings expert Joe Pinkos, who for many years had his forecasts and power rankings published right here on FloridaHSFootball.com. His work set the standard for what a Florida rankings system should be, and everything built since has carried that standard forward.

As we enter the 2026-27 school year, we're excited to unveil the Enhanced Florida Power Rankings Index — a complete rebuild of our rating system incorporating lessons learned from the full 2025-26 season, both the fall 2025 tackle football season and the spring 2026 girls flag football season.
The new system features fully automated updates — weekly during the tackle football season, daily during girls flag football — advanced strength-of-schedule calculations, game predictions with win probabilities and projected scores, championship probability tracking at the district, playoff, and state levels, and recent-form weighting to capture team momentum as the season develops. Both tackle and flag football are tracked with sport-specific adjustments, while sitting on the same rigorous mathematical foundation underneath.
That foundation is what lets us catch a team trending up or down in real time through recent-form weighting, and turn all of that into forward-looking predictions — win probability, projected score, and championship-level odds — instead of just a snapshot of where things stand today.
