In Broward County, there are two districts to consider in 8A. As we progress through the playoffs on the road to Orlando, any of these schools will need to contend with the top 8A opponent from Palm Beach County before challenging the top 8A opponent in Miami-Dade County.
District 11-8A
The two playoffs teams last year were Taravella (champion) and South Plantation (runner-up) who did not advance past the first round last year. These are the most likely scenarios.
- South Plantation will win the district with a win over Douglas and Coral Springs defeats Deerfield Beach.
- Taravella will win the district with a win over Coral Springs and South Plantation loses to Douglas and Deerfield Beach. They will make the playoffs if Coral Springs defeats Deerfield Beach.
- Deerfield Beach will win the district with wins against Coral Springs and South Plantation and Coral Springs defeats Taravella. They will make the playoffs if they beat South Plantation, Douglas defeats South Plantation and Taravella defeats Coral Springs.
- Coral Springs will make the playoffs if they defeat Taravella and Deerfield Beach and South Plantation defeats Deerfield Beach.
- Piper and Douglas are eliminated from playoff consideration.
District 12-8A
This district expected to have Miramar (last year’s champion) and Cypress Bay (last year’s runner-up) at the top but things have not gone exactly as planned. These are the most likely scenarios.
- Cypress Bay will win the district if Miramar defeats Western tonight, or they defeat Western next week.
- Western will win the district with a win against Miramar, a win against Cypress Bay and if Miramar defeats Flanagan.
- Flanagan will make the playoffs if Miramar defeats Western tonight and they defeat Miramar next week.
- Miramar will make the playoffs with a win against Western tonight and a win against Flanagan next week.
