Every week watching film, I discover some of the best prospects in Florida that don’t necessarily get the proper recognition that they should for all the hard work they put in. They are always dedicating themselves to the great game of football by putting their blood, sweat, and tears in this game. One day their dreams of playing Division I football will become reality. But until that day we get to enjoy these future stars as high school standouts. Here are five new prospects that work hard every time they step in the weight room, the classroom, or the field.
S Marquese Dudley-Gordon | Cypress Bay | 2014 | 6’1 | 190 | Watch Highlight Video
Trust me on this one, Marquese Dudley-Gordon will be one of the most talked about prospects in the state come next season. He puts his name on some college recruiting boards last season as he used his outstanding athletic ability to make big plays when needed. Cypress Bay head coach Mark Guandolo certainly appreciated it. Making it all the way to a state title game in 2012 gave Dudley-Gordon a chance to showcase his talents on a much bigger stage than the local scene. He has real nice size and is already at a pretty good weight heading into his senior year. He has a good nose for the ball and is aggressive. He can read the quarterback’s shoulders well which gives him an edge up on the competition. Dudley-Gordon is a prospect to look out for in during the 2013 season.
QB Sean White | University School | 2014 | 6’3 | 204 | Watch Highlight Video
After earning All-State honors for Class 3A, this top-notch quarterback left Chaminade-Madonna to go to his former district rival, Class 3A state champions, the University School Suns. When your talking about all-around fundamentals, I don’t think there is a better quarterback in the state. White is a rare breed of Florida quarterback. While normally in the Sunshine state the quarterback is one who is athletic, quick, and can make plays with their legs. White is more fundamental in the sense that he has good pocket presence and is deadly accurate. After a phenomenal season in 2012 (34 passing touchdowns, 2,921-yards, and 70.7% completion rate) White made himself a household name. White is a smart quarterback and should be displaying his talents at the BCS level very soon if not already.
WR Tyre McCants | Niceville | 2014 | 6’0 | 192 | Watch Highlight Video
When I was first told about this prospect and watched his game film, I was instantly impressed. If you haven’t seen this young man play, please do as you will be reminded once again that all over the state there are great athletes. McCants is in the top tier of those athletes though. With 4.4 40-time and a vertical that seems unreal for a high school player, his ability to wreak havoc at the wide-receiver position comes easy. McCants is also quite the threat in the return game as he took numerous kickoffs back to the end-zone for touchdowns this past season. If he continues to work hard and never quit in life, athletically, he could be as great as he wants. He is one of the best that the Panhandle has to offer.
RB Aaron Duckworth | Oakleaf | 2014 | 5’9 | 196 | Watch Highlight Video
With his muscular frame and good speed Aaron Duckworth is easily one of the best running backs in the Jacksonville area. Duckworth is a real powerful back with good instincts and is built like a college running back. He also draws comparisons to Jacksonville Jaguars running back, Maurice Jones-Drew. Duckworth can beat you with his legs, but another trait that makes this prospect so much more enticing his ability to make a difference in the passing game. He has soft hands and makes a good grab every now and then. Duckworth will make a large impact this season and has the possibility to take his Oakleaf team as far as they can imagine.
LT Reilly Gibbons | St. Petersburgh Catholic | 2014 | 6’6 | 276 | Watch Highlight Video
Reilly Gibbons is a kid that can improve a team by himself based on the fact that he can easily give the opposing defensive line a fit and make them focus on him before they worry about anyone else. Something I know a lot of head coaches do not like is a left tackle that is massive, has a good center of gravity and stays true to his fundamentals. Gibbons will play for a college program and make an impact shortly after his arrival because of his blend of athleticism and size. He is one of the top five tackles in the state because of this reason. Gibbons is a kid that will keep developing as his career goes on for sure. He is a sought after prospect early in the recruiting process based a lot on the fact that he has matured into his body and is a real strong kid that will be playing BCS football in the future.
