Two Florida high school football programs welcomed assistants from other schools as new head coaches today, as the end to spring football draws closer and closer.
In the northern part of the state, the Panama City News Herald reports that Franklin County has announced the hiring of Aaron York, 31, as their new head coach. York, a former assistant at Bozeman, will succeed Josh Wright. After being selected from a field of approximately 50 applicants, York was approved by the School Board last week.
Franklin County, which was 2-7 last season, has been under the direction of interim coach Tim Wheeler for the course of spring football. Wheeler was not among the applicants for the permanent head coaching gig according to the Herald.
In the southern part of the state, the Palm Beach Post reported the hiring of Matthew Semerano, 27, at Inlet Grove. Semerano, who was previously an assistant at St. Thomas Aquinas, becomes the youngest head coach in Palm Beach County according to the Post.
Semerano, who takes over for Jimmie Bell in the position of head football coach, will also take over for Sammantha Donovan in the position of athletic director. Semerano has much knowledge when it comes to the offense. The New York native quarterbacked at Marist, coach wide receivers for three seasons at St. Thomas Aquinas, and was the co-offensive coordinator for St. Thomas Aquinas in 2011.
