DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. East Gadsden – Despite a new head coach and a tough non-district schedule the Jaguars should once again be on track to take the top spot in the district. However, they will have to keep their eyes on an improving Walton team which defeated them last season.
Fighting It Out:
2. Walton – The Braves made a significant improvement under head coach Jimmy Ray Stephens in his first high school coaching stop in the Sunshine State in over 20 years. The Braves do have some playmakers that are capable of helping get a few more win on the board and a potential star is in the making with 2016 running back, Azende Rey who lit up the field last season and during spring football.
3. Florida High – Head coach Jarrod Hickman will have to find new replacements to fill in at quarterback and wide receiver as two of his top players transferred over to Lincoln during the offseason. The Seminoles path to making the playoffs is much easier now than in its previous district, but still there is East Gadsden and an improving Walton team waiting in the folds.
Got Work To Do:
4. Marianna – Coming off one of the best seasons in a while, despite missing the playoffs, Marianna will have some work to do to maintain this level of excellence. Tim Cokely departed for Leon during the offseason and Ander Bodkin is gone due to graduation. New head coach Mark Beach, however is already familiar with the scene in Marianna as he coached at nearby Graceville last season.
