DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. Bolles – This is the one team never to count out of making the playoffs and considering its been over two decades since they last miss the playoffs, we don’t think the stop is ending anytime soon. While Bolles, may not have the biggest names in terms of talent, there is usually a consistent balance of playmakers that keeps this team going. Overall, look for Bolles to be in the thick of a deep playoff run again this season.
Fighting It Out:
2. Raines – The Raines Vikings have put together a tough schedule this season, including a date with Class 6A powerhouse Miami Northwestern. There will be plenty of playmakers that will keep things going for this team including running back Alex Gardner and quarterback Marvin Zanders. The biggest goal in mind? To knock Bolles off the perch of a district championship like they did in 2011.
3. West Nassau – The Warrior now step out of the comfort of a three team, all-Nassau County district and will likely be fighting for the second spot against Raines this season. Staying healthy and competitive week-in and week-out will keep West Nassau in the hunt and if that happens with the talent they have there is a chance we could seem them playing in the postseason and not Raines.
Got Work To Do:
4. Baldwin – How does your student population affect your classification and district assignment? For the Indians, it sent them from being a Class 1A, Rural team the last two seasons, all the way up to Class 4A in what is a highly competitive district. Also, the Indians will have a new head coach as Brad West takes over the program and will need to fill in some holes including replacing All-State quarterback Jordan Mullis.
5. Andrew Jackson – For the Tigers, they are now on their third head coach since 2010 and have gone from being one of the top teams in the state to being a team that needs a lot of rebuilding to be a challenger once again. For Adam Ward, this is the challenge he faces and will have to face a tough district schedule once again. If things can get stabilized this season, the Tigers will have a nice chance to improve.
