DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. Melbourne Central Catholic – The Hustlers are one consistent team year-in and year-out and will likely have a big year after finishing 2012 on a strong note. With the skill position players being a year older in experience, there should be no question how high this team should go, especially when looking at its other district foes. Expect the win total to increase.
Fighting It Out:
2. Holy Trinity – The Tigers have been one of the benefactors of some football players that have transferred in after Florida Air closed down its program. Mark Ainsley who greatly improved the team last year will have to install some new and younger players this year to help off set the losses that occurred to graduation, but the experience is there.
3. Orangewood Christian – Despite being one of the smallest teams in Class 3A, the Rams looked poised to battle for a playoff spot this season. Jimmy Martin is again one player to watch for who has been a leader the last couple of seasons. While the size and depth will always be a concern, that didn’t keep this team from winning last season and we expect more of it this season.
Got Work To Do:
4. First Academy – The Royals had one heck of a season last year, but there are now tons of question marks, as most of the starters from last year’s team is gone, meaning its rebuilding time. A spring football loss to Lake Nona, didn’t help maters at all meaning a lot of things to figure out before the season starts. The defensive will see a majority of new starters and they will have to adjust quickly to stay in games this season.
5. Trinity Prep – The Saints welcome in new head coach Mike Kruczek and he will have a rebuilding job on his hands as he tries to turnaround what use to be a once proud program that had a tradition of winning. The team will be young this year, so don’t expect the biggest things this year, but some improvement should start to show on the field.
