DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. South Fort Myers – The Wolfpack have become one of the most successful programs in the Southwest Florida region and overall in Class 6A, despite not having a state championship to back all of it up as of yet. The team is boasting numerous Division I prospects once again and this team will be hard to beat once again. For the Wolfpack to not win the district this year again, would be highly shocking if not surprising at least.
Fighting It Out:
2. Ida Baker – While finishing 7-3 would get you a playoff spot most likely, last year the Bulldogs were left out of the big dance as their district was a log jam towards the end in who would get the two playoff spots. However, the district has lightened up and things look a lot better for a playoff spot to be captured. Most of the skill position players are back and that should be the key difference as to why Ida Baker is projected second and East Lee County is not.
3. East Lee County – A good portion of the starters have graduated and the Jaguars are introducing a new head coach after an historic season. Dave Smith takes over this season replacing Scott Jones who retired. Smith was the defensive coordinator last season and he faces a huge task of having to find new starters for the defensive line, plus having to find a few new playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Overall, this is a big reason why it could be hard to repeat what was done last season.
Got Work To Do:
4. Lehiigh – Head coach Nate Sund has another big challenge facing him and his crew after going 2-8 in his first season at the helm of the Lightning. There are some serious concerns about the lack of playmakers at the skill positions on both of sides of the ball. This a big reason why there is a lot of work to do, although both lines looks likely they will be alright.
