DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. South Dade – The Buccaneers greatly improved last season and returned to the playoffs after a year absence. Now the next chapter is looking to be written as South Dade is going to be a threat with speed and talent across the field. Do not be surprise towards the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs if South Dade is a team that possibly could make a deep playoff run.
Fighting It Out:
2. Miami Killian – The Cougars had a very successful 2012 season where they made the run to the regional finals before getting shown the door by Columbus. Now things change as a lot of seniors have moved on, but an new crop of seniors are coming in. Will this be enough to keep the Cougars in playoff contention. We will know towards the end of the season when the games that matter most are completed.
3. Coral Reef – The Barracudas could be the biggest threat to both South Dade and Miami Killian this season with nearly all the starters returning on both sides of the ball. The biggest prospect right now for the team is quarterback Nico Pierre who has been rising up as a national prospect during the offseason. Overall, don’t count Coral Reef out of anything possibly happening this season.
Got Work To Do:
4. Miami Southridge – The Spartans are facing a rough road ahead this offseason as Lamont Green left the program with just a few weeks left before the season. The Spartans defensive coordinator has taken over and there were issues last year with the team when everyone thought the Spartans would easily contend in the district. For now the dust will have to settle before the Spartans are placed back into being a playoff contender.
5. Miami Palmetto – Matt Dixon has a big job ahead of him this year as he tries to build from a 3-7 with very few seniors on the roster. With the roster so young, talent will need to develop before Panthers are consider a playoff worthy team.
