On Friday night, Broward County’s premier rivalry game took center stage and did not disappoint. As the rain soaked Brian Piccolo Stadium, the Miramar Patriots and St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders clashed in one of the best games in all of south Florida this year. Who were some of the best prospects on the field? I’ll take a closer look.
Miramar Patriots
2014 Miramar DT Anthony Barrow: A practically unknown prospect heading into Friday’s game came away as possibly the most important player on the field for the Patriots on Friday night. Miramar band director Cameron Underwood told me that Anthony Barrow made it clear at school on Friday that “he was going to earn a college scholarship (Friday night).” Barrow registered 2.5 sacks on the night including two sacks on Aquinas’ second-to-last drive of the game. One of the new faces on the “Darkside” defense.
2015 Miramar CB Tyrek Cole: Having seen Cole play a few times before I know what this kid brings to his team. Although after watching his performance last night, he in my opinion is the top cornerback in the class of 2015 in south Florida. His ball skills are fantastic. Not afraid to match up with the bigger receivers. Cole makes a living by covering opposing receivers step-for-step and covers them like a blanket.
St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders
2014 St. Thomas Aquinas DL Hunter Goldberg: Another under-the-radar guy but just a testament to St. Thomas’ mantra of “next man up”. As standout 2016 DL Nick Bosa was sidelined with a shoulder injury, Goldberg stepped up in a pretty big way. Sometimes used as a 3-technique he was disruptive and in some sets he was lined up outside and made his mark there. Goldberg is very versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways for Aquinas.
2015 St. Thomas Aquinas S Tyson Cisrow: From what I saw, the player who had the biggest impact for Aquinas was this playmaking junior. Cisrow accumulated 6 tackles and was very aggressive. You knew where he was on the field the whole night as he was ranging from sideline-to-sideline. Cisrow’s biggest play came with 2:20 left in the game. Miramar was attempting a 27-yard field goal that would have put them up on Aquinas 25-20. Cisrow had other plans as he blocked the field goal. However Aquinas did not score on that drive Cisrow displayed his talents well on that drive.
