Miami Central’s Dalvin Cook named 2013 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football

GAINESVILLE (January 10) – Senior running back Dalvin Cook of state champion Miami Central Senior High School has been named the 2013 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school football coaches and media representatives.

Cook was previously selected as the Class 6A Player of the Year after rushing 177 times for 1,940 yards and 34 touchdowns in helping the Rockets win their second straight state title and third in the last four years. In one of the closest votes in years, Cook, a Florida State commit who has already enrolled at FSU, totaled 147 points to edge senior quarterback and fellow FSU commit Treon Harris from state champion Miami Booker T. Washington, the Class 4A POY who finished as runner-up with 135 points. Senior running back Robert Thomas, the Class 8A POY from state runner-up Apopka, was third with 116 points, while junior quarterback Daniel Parr, the Class 7A POY from state champion Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, was fourth with 109 points as half of the field topped the century mark..

Rounding out this year’s voting in order were senior running back and Georgia commit Sony Michel (81), the Class 5A POY from state champion Plantation American Heritage; Class 2A POY Caleb Lewis (42), a junior quarterback from state runner-up Lakeland Victory Christian Academy; senior running back D. J. Thomas (40) from Baker, the Class 1A POY; and senior wide receiver Isaiah Ford (27), the Class 3A POY and Louisville commit from state champion Jacksonville University Christian.

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 22nd year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
