Former assistant John Warren takes the reins at Southeast
On Tuesday, John Warren was named the successor to the legendary Paul Maechtle who is retiring after 33 years as the head coach at Southeast. Warren who had previously been an assistant as a wide receivers coach two years ago, is coming back to Southeast after leading Massac County High in Illinois to a 3-6 season in his only year there. Warrnen beat out three other candidates for the job that all had a connection to having been a coach at Southeast under Maechtle or a former player. Dudley steps down at St. Petersburg Catholic
After getting St. Petersburg Catholic back to prominence during the 2013 season, Steve Dudley has resigned as the head coach due to his job in the medical sales industry the Tampa Bay Times reports. Dudley led the Barrons to an 8-3 season including making it to the regional finals in the Class 3A playoffs. Lake Howell assistant lands Cypress Creek position
Shaun Lorenzano, a Lake Howell assistant the past two years, has been name the new head coach for the Cypress Creek Bears, the Orlando Sentinel has reported. Lorenzano takes over from John Tezik who resigned after three seasons with the program. Cypress Creek has been 2-18 overall in the last two seasons. To read more on Lorenzano’s hiring, click here.
Goebel is coaching again in Volusia County
Former Spruce Creek head coach Bob Goebel was named the head coach at Pine Ridge in Deltona on Tuesday, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Goebel was 12-28 in four seasons with the Hawks and will now take over a Pine Ridge team that was 0-10 last season. Pine Ridge competes in District 6A-9 alongside over Volusia County rivals, Mainland, Seabreeze, New Smyrna Beach and cross-town rival Deltona.
Steve Dudley named the new head coach at St. Andrew’s
Dudley who has been a head coach for nearly the last two decades with stops at Gulliver Prep in Pinecrest and St. John Neumann in Naples, will be coaching in 2014. Dudley was hired on Wednesday as the next head coach at St. Andrew’s in Boca Raton, ESPN 106.3 West Palm Beach reports. Dudley takes over a program that was 3-7 in the 2013 season and will try to turn the program around that has seen little success. To read more from Wells Dusenbury’s report, click here.
Jimbo Hale appears to be out at Wildwood
An FHSAA classified advertisement has indicated that Wildwood is seeking a new head coach going into the 2014 season. Hale who has been the head coach for the Wildcats since last March. With the change, it would mark it as Wildwood’s third head coach in just as many seasons.
