Arguably, the Dr. Phillips Panthers have been one of the best Class 8A programs in the state for quite a while now. They seems to find ways to play some teams from the outside of the Orlando-area, in most seasons, but can still get some good tests from teams just within their own neck of the woods.
Here are some of our thoughts when it comes to the 2014 Dr. Phillips Panthers Schedule (link):
THREE BEST OPPONENTS: Winter Park, Timber Creek, University (Orlando)
THREE WEAKEST OPPONENTS: Cypress Creek, Evans, Colonial
BEST OVERALL GAME: at Winter Park, Friday, November 7
For the Panthers, the best overall game on the schedule won’t come until Week 11 against Winter Park. The Panthers will use this game as one last challenge before likely entering the playoffs. Winter Park was a very solid team last season and should be again this year. What a great way for the Panthers to close out the regular season.
DISTRICT TRAP GAME: vs. Boone, Friday, October 3
This is a game we consider to be a trap for Dr. Phillips for this season. Boone might not have had the best of all records last season, but Boone has a winning head coach going into his second season with the program. With that said we expect improvement from this program, possibly enough to give Dr. Phillips a bit of run for the money so to speak.
THE WEAKEST GAME: at Cypress Creek, Friday, October 17
If you point out the best part of the schedule, you must point out the weakest part of the schedule as well. Unfortunately for Dr. Phillips, the Cypress Creek game on Friday, October 17 is overall the weakest game on the schedule at this point. While Cypress Creek has made some changes with the coaching staff including hiring a new head coach, we are not expecting drastic changes to come this year.
