The playoffs are here upon us and we are going to take a dive and look at this week’s slate for Class 2A, Regions I & II regional semifinals with our prediction of who will advance to next week’s regional finals.
REGION I
Duval Charter (8-1) at North Florida Christian (5-4)
The Skinny: Duval Charter is a first time playoff team going up against one of the states renown playoff teams in North Florida Christian. The Panthers would love nothing more to get their first playoff win against a team like this. For North Florida Christian, the struggles are real this year. They are not the same kind of team that is now almost three years removed from winning the Class 2A state championship, nor are they as loaded with Division I talent as they have been in previous years. Look for a possible upset in this game, but we will stick with the home team for this one.
Prediction: North Florida Christian
FAMU (6-4) at University Christian (7-3)
The Skinny: FAMU has improved considerably since last year, but by no means are the likely to pull off an upset in the first round by the way it looks on paper. University Christian’s three losses this season have all come to bigger teams that include 3A teams Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) and Clearwater Central Catholic. The score may not get out of hand here, but the edge for this game certainly falls in the home team’s favor here.
Prediction: University Christian
REGION II
Foundation Academy (5-5) at Warner Christian (5-4)
The Skinny: Foundation Academy and Warner Christian might look even on paper when it comes to records on the field, but that is about all it seems to be. Warner Christian’s four losses have included losses to teams like Trinity Christian (Jacksonville), Admiral Farragut among other bigger teams. So Warner Christian has truly been battle tested compared to the likes of Foundation Academy and that is where we think the advantage lies at for this game.
Prediction: Warner Christian
St. Edward’s (4-5) at Victory Christian (8-1)
The Skinny: St. Edward’s has struggled a lot this season as a team winning here when needed, but not winning games you would think they might win. Also to no fault of their own, St. Edward’s also faced many changes in the schedule before the season, leading to some games that would have been winnable not being around when it came time to play. For Victory Christian things have been solid this year for the Storm and things are looking pretty good for them to possibly make a run to Orlando here in the playoffs.
Prediction: Victory Christian
