The playoffs are here upon us and we are going to take a dive and look at this week’s slate for Class 5A, Region III regional quarterfinals with our prediction of who will advance to next week’s regional semifinals.
Auburndale (6-4) at Jesuit (6-4)
The Skinny: As good as they play football in Hillsborough the level of play in Polk County is just as good. Two evenly matched teams should result in a close game.
Prediction: Auburndale
Spoto (7-3) at Lake Wales (8-2)
The Skinny: One of the two losses the Highlanders suffered was a 53-9 butt whooping to top ranked Mainland. Games like that help you out in the regular season when you see good competition down the road. For Spoto, this game could likely be a one and done situation for them, but we have seen crazier things happen.
Prediction: Lake Wales
Titusville (6-3) at Bishop Moore (10-0)
The Skinny: Nobody has come close to stopping the freight train of the Bishop Moore Hornets the last three weeks. The Hornets have put up 170 points while giving up just 38, while Titusville has looked shaky at times in a few games that were closer than expected by some.
Prediction: Bishop Moore
Mount Dora (8-2) at Merritt Island (8-2)
The Skinny: Mount Dora makes the trip to the Space Coast area to take on Merritt Island in a first round matchup. The Hurricanes have been on a roll except for back-to-back losses to Bishop Moore and Lake Minneola. The Space Coast area is always a tough area to play in and thats no exception as Merritt Island is 5-0 at home.
Prediction: Merritt Island
