Here are FloridaHSFootball.com’s Class 8A Rankings after Week 3. Ranking, team name, record and previous rank included for each team.
Below the Top 10 are the regional rankings for Class 8A, showing you how teams are ranked in each of the four designated FHSAA regions.
Class 8A Top 10
1. Flanagan, 2-0, 1
Week 3: Idle
This Week: at South Plantation
Comment: Was off this past week and should have gotten some well needed rest in preparation for their District 8A-12 opener against South Plantation on the road.
2. Apopka, 3-0, 2
Week 3: Defeated DeLand, 49-7
This Week: at Dr. Phillips
Comment: Another week, another game where Apopka has scored at least 40 points as they took out DeLand in the first meeting of the teams in a while. Will face Dr. Phillips this week, a team that last in a close battle against West Orange.
3. Osceola (Kissimmee), 3-0, 3
Week 3: Defeated Liberty (Kissimmee), 48-7
This Week: at Winter Haven
Comment: Easily rolled by rival Liberty and will get ready this week to head over to Winter Haven to face a tough Blue Devils team that has also started off the season 3-0 and is ranked in Class 7A.
4. West Orange, 3-0, 5
Week 3: Defeated Dr. Phillips, 41-34
This Week: at Trinity Christian (Jacksonville)
Comment: The Warriors win in the first meeting of the two teams in the Battle of the Ole Orange Crate and they will try this week knock of the top ranked team in 3A when they travel up to Jacksonville Trinity Christian.
5. Columbus, 3-0, 6
Week 3: Defeated Miami Southridge, 17-13
This Week: vs Miami High at Columbus
Comment: Columbus is finding a way to keep winning in close defensive battles, but could possibly find it a little bit easier this week against Miami High and playing a rare home game at the school.
6. Vero Beach, 2-0, 7
Week 3: Game vs. Palm Beach Gardens canceled due to weather.
This Week: Port St. Lucie
Comment: Mother Nature was the winner last week between the Vero Beach and Palm Beach Gardens game. Indians should have it easy this week against Port St. Lucie which comes from the only district (5A-15) in which team has failed to win a game yet this season – that is if Mother Nature plays nice this week.
7. Atlantic (Delray), 2-0, 9
Week 3: Idle
This Week: vs. Glades Central
Comment: Atlantic had last week off to rest and prepare for Glades Central this week, a team that looked shaky at best against a Delray American Heritage team that had just come off a huge loss to Bergen Catholic, NJ the week prior.
8. Dr. Phillips, 2-1, 4
Week 3: Lost to West Orange, 41-34
This Week: vs. Apopka
Comment: The renewal of the Battle for the Ole’ Orange Crate didn’t go as well as Dr. Phillips expected, but battled nonetheless against West Orange. However, a tougher task lays ahead as Apopka comes to town for the first regular season meeting between the two teams in awhile, this week.
9. Fort Pierce Central, 3-0, 10
Week 3: Defeated Clewiston 34-27
This Week: Idle
Comment: Fort Pierce Central was able to battle back late in the game and win over a very tough Clewiston team that was playing a lot of athletes both ways. Will rest up this week and return to the field next week on the road at Wellington.
10. Mandarin, 3-0, NR
Week 3: Defeated Ribault, 23-21
This Week: vs. DeLand
Comment: The Mustangs have been a team on the rise and they have seemingly turned a corner under Brian Braddock having already defeating Ed White and now Ribault to stay undefeated heading into district play.
Dropped Out: No. 8 South Dade
